Highlights
Lubbock Christian University will make their second-ever appearance (first since 2019) in the Lone Star Conference Championships, as the third-year LSC program clinched a berth with a 3-0 victory over Western New Mexico, which also improved them to 8-1 in road play on the season. LCU was led by
Hannah Froeschl, who had 10 kills and a .421 hitting mark to lead the Lady Chaps, who hit .306 as a squad. They held WNMU, who had nine aces, to a .061 attack percentage on the night.
How It Happened
Set One:
LCU jumped out early, using a 4-0 and 7-1 run to take a 13-4 lead. The Lady Chaps used two more 4-0 runs and built their lead to 24-11, but they had trouble getting the 25
th point. WNMU went on a 5-0 run before a bad set led to the clinching point for LCU taking a 25-16 set win. Seven different Lady Chaps had at least one kill, as LCU used 12 players in the first set and were led by Froeschl.
Set Two:
A pair of aces helped the Mustangs go on a 7-0 run, building an 11-5 lead, forcing LCU to play from behind.
Sage Chain and
Aaliyah Gray produced a pair of LCU kills to help spark a 5-1 run and LCU pulled the deficit to 12-10. WNMU led 15-12 before LCU flipped the script in the set.
Kaitlyn Mayo had a pair of kills to follow a kill by Froeschl and it jump-started a 9-1 run for a 21-16 LCU lead. LCU went on to claim the set 25-21 behind a .333 hitting mark and 18 kills in the frame.
Set Three:
LCU had the upper hand in the match, as early in the third set, they went on a 6-0 run for an 8-3 lead. The Lady Chaps never let go of the lead. WNMU trailed 12-9 before LCU responded with a 7-1 lead for a 17-10 lead. LCU claimed the set 25-16 to sweep the match.
