How It Happened
Set One:
Angelo State went on a 7-2 run, with four of the points coming off LCU attack errors, breaking the Belles from a 4-4 tie for an 11-7 lead. LCU responded by scoring five of the next seven points and cut their deficit to 13-11. The Belles matched the run and maintained their distance to capture the opening set 25-20. ASU had a 17-10 kill advantage in the set, with Gilbreath leading the Belles with five kills. Lyons and
Aaliyah Gray co-led LCU with three kills in the opening set, as LCU was held to a .049 hitting percentage.
Set Two:
Angelo State used a huge 12-1 rally to break from a 6-5 lead, which gave the Belles an 18-6 advantage. It was a balanced attack, as a trio of Belles had at least two kills, including three kills from Fuller. The Belles hit .452 in the set and won the set 25-11. They had an 18-6 advantage in kills, with Fuller (6) and Elsa Lamphere (5) combining for 11 kills, and a 21-8 advantage in digs.
Set Three:
LCU had an early rhythm in the third set, with a kill from
Jalee Sims opening a 7-2 LCU run for a 7-4 lead. The set went downhill from that moment, as ASU went on a 10-2 run, which was part of a 21-10 scoring surge to close the set (ASU won the set 25-11). LCU's best offensive marks in the match came in the frame, as they had 11 kills. Mayo, Lyons and
Sage Post each had three kills for LCU. Fuller (5) and Sophia Berg (4) paced the Belles with a combined nine kills in the set.
