How It Happened
Set One:
LCU had a strong start, forcing DBU into an early timeout after a 7-1 LCU run led to a 7-2 lead.
Aaliyah Gray had two of LCU's four kills during the run. DBU responded off the timeout, snapping the LCU sequence and going on a 4-1 run to cut LCU's lead to 8-6. Trailing 10-6, DBU went on a 8-2 run for a 14-12 lead, and consecutive kills by Halee Van Poppel forced LCU to call their first timeout of the match. LCU came out of the timeout and tied the set 14-14, but DBU responded with a kill by Van Poppel to start a 3-0 run. Four DBU attack errors allowed LCU to score their next four points, and
Jalee Sims jumped aboard the scoring sequence to produce a kill and give LCU a 20-19 lead to cap a 6-2 run. The two teams were locked up at 18-18, 19-19, and 20-20 before
Sage Chain and
Hannah Froeschl had a pair of kills to help LCU score the next three points for a 23-20 lead. DBU followed by capitalizing off a trio of LCU errors and the set was tied 23-23. The trend progressed to 24-24, 25-25, 26-26, 27-27 and 28-28. Each team had a trio of set-point serves before Gray served consecutive aces to give LCU the set 30-28. Gray led LCU with five kills in the set. Van Poppel was unable to win the set for DBU despite 10 kills in the frame.
Set Two:
LCU carried the momentum into the second set, receiving three consecutive blocks (Froeschl assisted on all three blocks) as part of a 7-3 run. LCU also had a 6-0 run, which was part of an 8-1 run to take a 16-6 lead. They closed the set on an 8-2 run for a 25-10 set win. LCU had an 11-5 advantage in kills in the set, with
