LADY CHAP HEADERS
- Lubbock Christian wraps up the 2021 season on at home, hosting St. Mary's, who has an identical record to LCU, at 1 p.m. Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex
- The Lady Chaps are coming off a 1-0 win at Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday, getting their first victory since Oct. 16 and breaking a four-game losing streak
- St. Mary's was scheduled to play against UT Tyler on Wednesday. The game was postponed 55 minutes into play due to a thunderstorm and was not able to be finished, resulting in a no-contest
- LCU is 7-0-1 this season when they score the first goal of the game, but they are 1-6 when opponents score first. The one comeback win was against NMHU
- Lady Chap goalkeeper Hannah Wise made seven saves in Wednesday's win over the Greyhounds, bringing her season total to 53 and raising her save percentage to .828
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
Saturday's match will close out the 2021 season for the Lady Chaps, who are already guaranteed winning record for the year. It is the ninth time in 10 tries that an LCU team led by head coach
Alex Denning has finished with a winning record. Lubbock Christian started the season without a loss in the first eight games of the year, claiming six wins and a pair of ties. One of the wins was against No. 12 Dallas Baptist, marking the program's first win over a ranked opponent. Back-to-back losses in conference play stopped the streak before a senior day win against UT Tyler. LCU's next four contests all ended in losses, but they were all by just one goal. The streak was broken with the win over ENMU heading into this final match of the year.
SPREAD THE WEALTH
When
Kaylen McNatt scored in the second half of Wednesday's match against Eastern New Mexico, she became the 11
th different Lady Chap to find the back of the net this season. LCU has averaged 1.19 goals per game this season, with scoring coming from all over the field. Tied for the team lead are Pate and
Allison Scott with four apiece, and the two have led the offense with a combined total of 5 shots. Jimenez and
Celia Duarte have scored two goals apiece, and another six seven players have found the back of the net at least once. Lubbock Christian's eight game-winners have also come from seven different players, with only Pate netting multiple.
SHUTOUT CENTRAL
The shutout of the Greyhounds on Wednesday was the sixth of the season by the Lady Chaps, surpassing their total from the spring 2021 season. Lubbock Christian now has a goals against average of exactly 1.00, which Is the fifth-best in the conference. Opponents have been limited to just 207 shots or an average of 12.9 per game. Of those, only 90 (43.5 percent) have been on goal. Captains
Shadiana Haney and
Madison Mayben lead the back line, and
Brittany Jones and
Kaylen McNatt have also played more than 1,000 minutes on defense. Wise has handled the majority of LCU's goalkeeping duties, posting a save percentage of .828, which is second-best in the LSC.
MAINSTAYS
Only four LCU players have appeared in every single game this season, including Jimenez, Jones, Shahi and Pate. Jimenez is also the team leader in minutes played at 1,380, including the full 90 minutes in five of the last six games. Shahi is the only other Lady Chap to start in all 16 games, and although she missed one game,
Shadiana Haney is second on the team in minutes played with 1,301. Besides Jimenez and Haney, five other LCU field players have seen more the 1,000 minutes of action this year.
FRESH FACES
Throughout the 2021 season, Lubbock Christian has seen more and more contribution from players in their first season of collegiate soccer. Early in the year, it was
Avery Jennings,
Chloe Hinojosa and
Kenley Blevins seeing regular playing time. Jennings and Hinojosa have both played in 14 of the 16 games this year, and Jennings leads all true freshmen with 889 minutes played. Jennings and Blevins have both have a goal and an assist each this year as well. As the season has worn on though, fellow true freshmen
Malena Watzlawik,
Madi Fuller and
Giorgia Terzoni have seen their playing time increase. Fuller came close to netting her first collegiate goal on Wednesday, sending a shot off the crossbar early against the Greyhounds.
WHERE THE HEART IS…
Saturday's game is the last at home for the Lady Chaps this season. LCU is 4-3-1 at home this season, averaging 1.25 goals on 14.2 shots per game. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. The program is 56-2-12 all-time in home contests and has never had a losing record at home under head coach

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
- St. Mary's comes in with an identical record to Lubbock Christian at 8-6-2, but they have fared slightly better in league play with a 5-4-2 showing
- The Rattlers need to win on Saturday and for Oklahoma Christian to beat Texas A&M-Commerce for their season to continue in the LSC Tournament
- Megan Copeland and Juni Ejere are tied for the team lead in goals with six apiece
- Alexis Lawrence actually leads the team in shots with 47 this season, but is tied for third in goals with four
- Rebecca Difronzo has handled nearly all of the goalkeeper minutes, posting a save percentage of .826 and a goals against average of .97
