TUESDAY THROWBACK
Ashton Duncan poured in 20 points and Juliana Robertson notched LCU's first double-double performance of the season, which included a career-high 15 rebounds, as the Lady Chaparrals extended their NCAA Division II record home win streak to 94 games with a 60-49 win over West Texas A&M in a non-conference Rivalry on the Range matchup inside Rip Griffin Center Tuesday night. CHAP NOTES
  • > Ashton Duncan leads LCU with 30 three-pointers, averaging 3.00 per game (leads the conference and ranks 17th nationally). The 30 three-pointers ranks second in the nation and leads the LSC (Nicole Flennaugh of Cal State LA leads the nation with 33). Duncan, who has scored at least 10 points in eight of LCU's 10 games this season, leads the team averaging 13.4 points per game. She is 19 three-pointers away from her 235th three-pointer, which would have her third in program history and passing Sierra Lovorn (Wilcox), who had 234 three-pointers from 2005-2009.
  • > The Lady Chaps have claimed the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor in each week they have played and the award was issued (three of the four weeks the award has been issued). Allie Schulte has received the honor twice, with teammate Grace Foster also receiving the award. Overall for Offensive and Defensive, LCU has claimed four of the eight honors the LSC has issued this season (three defensive and one offensive).
  • > Allie Schulte, by one point, ranks second on the squad in scoring with an average of 13.3 points per game. She also leads the team is assists (39) and steals (22). Her 39 assists ranks second in the conference, with a pace of 3.9 per game (fourth in the LSC), and her 22 steals ranks fourth in the conference. Schulte is two assists away from 364 career assists, which would place her ahead of Jessica Dahlstrom (363, 1992-96) and move her into fifth all-time in program history. She is also 22 steals away from moving past Sherry Brown (271, 1979-83) into second all-time in program history.
  • > Laynee Burr, who has two performances of at least 18 points this season, is averaging 9.1 points per game. A member of the DII CCA Tip-Off Classic at the Trailhead All-Tournament Team selection, Burr enters Saturday's play eighth in the conference in assists with 27 on the season.
  • > LCU opened the season making their first 14 free-throw attempts and are 83.1% (133/160) from the free-throw line, which ranks seventh nationally. From their game against Tampa (Nov. 7) to their game at Colorado Christian (Nov.12), in which they made 13 consecutive free-throws to start the game, LCU made a sequence of 17 consecutive free-throws. They topped that mark in their opening home stand of the season, making 43 consecutive free-throws (They made 28 straight free-throws in their game against Lander as part of the sequence). Schulte is 38-of-40 (95.0%) from the free-throw line on the season, which is ninth nationally.
  • > Grace Foster and Juliana Robertson have provided LCU strong defense inside the perimeter. Robertson ranks third in the LSC in rebounds (75) and seventh in defensive rebounds per game (5.8). She is coming off consecutive career-high rebound performances, with 13 rebounds against Hawai'i Pacific and 15 Tuesday against WTAMU (LCU's top rebounding performance since Allison Szabo grabbed 16 rebounds on Jan. 19, 2017 against St. Edward's). She has 41 in her past four games (4.1 per game average). Foster and Robertson co-lead LCU in blocks with six each.
  • > LCU is sixth nationally in turnovers…or lack thereof, as they average 11.6 per game. The stat has Allie Schulte ranking second in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio at 2.44. As a team, LCU ranks 33rd nationally and third in the LSC for team assist/turnover ratio (1.09).

NATIONALLY KNOWN
For the first time in program history, LCU claimed the No.1 spot in the WBCA's National Top-25 Preseason Poll, and for the first time they were the favorites in both the WBCA and D2SIDA preseason polls. LCU fell to CSU Pueblo in Lakewood, Colo., which ended their 39-game win streak and knocked them out of the No.1 spot. LCU is No.2 in the WBCA Top-25 poll and No.6 in the D2SIDA Top-25 poll for a second consecutive week.

SO ARE SOME OTHERS
On Nov. 20, LCU defeated No.20 Daemen, marking their third game of the season against a nationally ranked program. LCU went 6-0 against nationally ranked programs last season and 4-2 in 2019-20 against the nations ranked foes. This season, LCU is 3-0 against ranked opponents, as they have also defeated No.11 Tampa (Nov. 7 in Billings, Mont.) and No.1 Lander (Nov. 19 in Lubbock).

FIVE THINGS ABOUT WNMU
1 > The Mustangs are off to a 3-3 start to the season. They opened play this week falling at home to Eastern New Mexico 55-49 despite holding ENMU to a 2-of-12 shooting performance from three-point range.
2 > WNMU went 1-3 last season, playing a very limited schedule due to COVID protocols placed down by the state of New Mexico. Each of their four games were played out-of-state. The limited play has them with a No.17 LSC Preseason pick for this season.
3 > Of the 3-3 record for WNMU, all three wins are at home, where they are 3-1 this season.
4 > The Mustangs rank seventh nationally with a pace of 5.8 blocks per game. Destiny Johnson enters the week rank 21st nationally with 2.2 blocks per game.
5 > WNMU ranks second in the LSC and 17th nationally defensively, as they have held their opponents to a 32.5% shooting mark from the field this season.

THE SERIES AGAINST WNMU
The Mustangs and Lady Chaps are set to meet for the 23rd time in an all-time series that dates back to 1980. WNMU has not defeated the Lady Chaps since 1994, which has led to LCU taking a 12-10 series advantage. LCU has won the prior eight meetings, with the latest resulting in an 75-39 LCU win Feb. 12 inside Rip Griffin Center. LCU is 4-3 in Silver City, N.M. against WNMU (three straight wins). The 2019-20 season's home-and-home conference schedule marked the first time the two teams had a home-and-home set scheduled in a single season since 1994, when each were members of the NAIA.

PRIOR MEETING VS. WNMU
LUBBOCK, Texas (February 12, 2021) – No.1 Lubbock Christian University shot 56.7% from the field in the second half and received 22 points from Emma Middleton to top Western New Mexico 75-39, completing a two-game non-conference sweep of the Mustangs.

LCU, who opened the prior game against WNMU with a 17-0 run, was unable to have the fast start as they had during that outing. The Lady Chaps opened the game 3-of-10 from the field, and they found themselves trailing 9-3 after Abi Walter hit a pair of field goals for a 5-0 WNMU run. Juliana Robertson (9) and Middleton (4) accounted for all the scoring in the opening quarter, as LCU trailed 15-13 after the opening quarter.

The Lady Chaps found their offensive stride in the second quarter. LCU built off a late three-pointer from Middleton at the close of the first quarter and opened the second quarter with the first 13 points for a 16-0 run. Middleton had 11 of the 16 points during the run. WNMU was held to two field goals in the quarter and LCU took a 30-20 lead into the halftime.

Three WNMU three-pointers in the third quarter helped prevent the quarter from being more lopsided as it was, as LCU scored 24 points in the quarter. LCU was 8-of-14 from the field in the quarter (57.1%), going 7-of-9 (77.8%) inside the arc. Ashton Duncan (7) and Allie Schulte (6) combined for 13 points during the quarter and LCU took a 54-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

LCU outscored WNMU 21-4 in the fourth quarter. They had an 8-0 run in the quarter and ended the game on a 9-0 run, with seven points scored by Lara Mason in a two-minute span. WNMU ended the game making two of their last 17 field goal attempts.

WNMU (1-3) finished the game 33.3% from the field. Olivia Lee led the Mustangs, finishing the game with seven points and 11 rebounds. They were plagued by 29 turnovers, as LCU outscored WNMU 34-5 in points-off-turnovers.

Middleton led LCU with 22 points and was one of four Lady Chaps to finish in double figures. Robertson and Schulte each had 12 points and Duncan finished with 10 points. LCU was 47.5% from the field and 62.5% (25/40) inside the arc. The Lady Chaps posted 48 points from the paint, which was a season high and the most since registering 48 points in the paint on Mar. 26, 2019 against North Georgia at the Elite Eight Tournament.

LCU missed more than three free-throw attempts in a game for the first time this season, but still shot 80% from the line (16/20). They outscored WNMU 16-2 from the line.
