LCU Looking to Salvage Win Monday

Chaps Hit .212 in First Two Games

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (3-5, 2-3 LSC) at
ST. MARY'S (6-2, 4-1 LSC)
Monday, February 22 – 1 p.m.
Dickson Stadium– San Antonio, Texas

LEADING OFF
It's not normal for the Lubbock Christian University baseball team, but then again not much about the last year has been normal. The winter storm that covered Texas last week forced the postponement of the Chaps' last series and rescheduling of this weekend's matchups with St. Mary's. Playing for the first time in more than two weeks, LCU dropped both ends of Sunday's doubleheader, but they still have a chance to get out of San Antonio with one win on Sunday.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – The lanky left-hander Armando Valle will get the nod from head coach Nathan Blackwood, making his third start of the season. In the Puerto Rico native's previous two starts, he has done a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde routine, dominating once and struggling once. He has an overall ERA of 7.36 in seven and a third innings of work. He has only allowed six hits but struggles with command from time-to-time and has walked six batters. He is tied for the team lead in strikeouts with nine.

StMU – It will be right-handed Mason Minister on the mound, a pitcher with the oddity of wearing a single digit (9) on the back of his jersey. Minister has been solid in his first two starts this year, posting an ERA of 5.25 in 12 innings of work. He does allow quite a few baserunners, with 12 hits and five walks given up, but he has struck out 11 batters as well. Most of the hits allowed by Minister have been singles with only three doubles, no triples and no home runs.

.364 | Luis Navarro is LCU's leading hitter this season with a .364 batting average
10 | St. Mary's hit .400 with two outs on Sunday, collecting 10 hits and eight RBI in 25 at-bats.

28 | LCU head coach Nathan Blackwood needs just 28 wins to surpass Larry Hays and become the program's all-time leader in wins
