Game 1

LCU Highlights:

Turning Point:
Savannah Wysocki led off the game reaching base, but was eventually thrown out attempting to steal third base. LCU, coming off a series at West Texas A&M in which they left many runners stranded, was still able to cash in with a Brooke Makemson (game's third batter) hitting a two-run home run and setting the scoring tone.

How it Happened:
  • Makemson homered to left field to score Skyler Herrera to highlight a three-run first inning.
  • LCU extended the lead to 6-0 in the second inning with a three-run second inning. For a second consecutive inning, Wysocki led off reaching base and it led to Tyla Lee, Addi Lewis and Athena Muniz each achieving a RBI in consecutive at-bats.
  • Alivia Villarreal and Kamryn Gibbs went back-to-back with home runs in the third inning with solo home runs. Gibbs would strike again with a RBI-single in the fourth inning before Muniz closed the scoring with a RBI-single in the fifth inning for a 10-0 lead.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco had her 10th complete game of the season. She went 5.0 innings and allowed three hits. She struck out six and improved to 8-3 on the season.
  • Savannah Wysocki had her fourth multi-stolen base performance of the season, stealing two bases in the game.
  • LCU had hits from eight different players and seven different players produced at least one RBI.
  • Villarreal's home run was her second of the season and ninth in her LCU career.
  • The Lady Chaps had their seventh shutout of the season and Franco has been part of all seven. She has six complete game shutouts and was part of one combined shutout.
