Lady Chaps Fall in Laredo

LCU’s Season-High Nine Shots on Goal Not Enough

LAREDO, Texas (March 24, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University had 15 shots, nine of which were on goal, but Texas A&M International still came away with the 3-0 win at Dustdevil Soccer Field on Wednesday night.

The loss snapped a three-game Lady Chap win streak and dropped them to 4-3 on the year and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

LCU was actually the team on the offensive to start the game, putting two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play. Victoria Ramirez had the first in just the third minute, and Maddie Hoel had another in the eighth minute, but both were saved.

Texas A&M International then broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute with a goal from Krysan St. Louis.

The Lady Chaps continued to press and try and even the score throughout the rest of the second half, controlling the ball for most of the remaining 30 minutes. Celia Duarte put a shot on goal in the 21st minute, and LCU had two more in the 34th and 35th minutes.

Lindsey Elison had possibly the best chance of any Lady Chap, hitting the crossbar in the 37th minute. Julie Shahi had another shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the Lady Chaps went into the break still down a goal.

Duarte had another scoring chance just two minutes into the second half and Allison Scott had another in the 50th minute, but TAMIU keeper Alicia Huerta continued to make saves. Another two LCU shots followed and missed wide lift.

In the 67th minute though, LCU was called for a foul that allowed TAMIU to take a penalty kick, and they converted to double the lead.

Just five minutes later it was like déjà vu, as the Dustdevils were awarded another penalty kick and converted once again to increase their lead to 3-0.

Lubbock Christian had one more shot on goal from Madison Mayben before the clock ran out. LCU's nine shots on goal are their most since Nov. 9, 2019 when they had 11 against Eastern New Mexico. Their previous high from this year was eight, which they reached twice.

The Lady Chaps will return home for their next matchup, hosting Western Texas College at 7 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
