Lady Chaps Push Past Westerners on Senior Night

Elison, Duarte, Score in Win

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 27, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University honored its two graduating seniors in the best way possible – with a win – beating Western Texas College 2-0 on Saturday night at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

When the Lady Chaps honored Gabby Gomez and Victoria Ramirez at halftime, the score was still knotted at 0-0, but not for lack of LCU trying. They racked up 18 shots during the opening 45 minutes, including seven on goal, but all of those scoring chances were either just off target or saved by the WTC keeper.

Honoree Victoria Ramirez had the first LCU shot on goal, Lindsey Elison and Arely Jimenez each had a pair, and Tegan Wilson had one as well. Western Texas College did have one scoring chance with just under two minutes left to play in the half, but Hannah Wise made the save.

After the senior ceremonies for Gabby Gomez and Victoria Ramirez at halftime, the Lady Chaps wasted no time in taking a lead over the Westerners. The go-ahead goal came a measly 21 seconds into the second half, with Elison finding the back of the net. Celia Duarte assisted on the goal.

The Lady Chaps had five more shots in the first five minutes of the half and another shot on goal from Jimenez in the in the 60th minute, but none found the back of the net. Elison herself had another shot on goal in the 69th minute and it was saved as well.

LCU was finally able to double the lead in the 70th minute, as Duarte scored herself with Ramirez assisting on the goal.

Faith Webber had LCU's final two shots on goal in the 80th minute, but both were saved by the WTC goalkeeper. Overall, the Lady Chaps had 13 shots, including six on goal in the second half.

Western Texas College also had a better time offensively in the second half, tallying seven shots, including four on goal, but Wise made all the saves necessary to earn the shutout.

Lubbock Christian will close out its regular season this week, hosting St. Mary's at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
