Game 1
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Down to their last own and the tying run at third base,
Angela Donaldson beat out an infield single to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
How it Happened:
- LCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game. Addi Lewis hit a two-out single to score Savannah Wysocki (reached on leadoff walk) in the first inning. Solo home runs from Muniz and Gibbs led to a two-run second inning for the 3-0 lead.
- Cameron scored a run in the fourth inning and followed with a three-run sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Brenna Busby led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on a runner's fielders choice, as an infield single by Mikayla Richmond led to Busby breaking from third base on her own and scoring. Khmari Edwards singled in Richmond and would later score on a sacrifice fly (by Breley Webb) to cap the three-run inning.
- Wysocki hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning for LCU, and advanced to third base with a two-out single by Makemson. Down to their final out to a second straight batter, Donaldson hit a slow chopper and was able to beat out the throw from shortstop, tying the game at 4-4.
- Muniz doubled in the eighth inning and scored on a single to right field by Alivia Villarreal.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco had the 8.0-inning complete game victory (her eighth complete game of the season) for the Lady Chaps, striking out eight batters in the process (no walks). Friday (against Oklahoma Christian), she forced 17 groundouts and two fly-outs, and Sunday she forced 13 groundouts and three fly-outs. The win places her with a 7-2 record on the season.
- LCU, going 4-0 last season in extra-inning contests, wins their first extra-inning affair of the season, and it was their first walk-off win (non run-rule walk-off) since Mar. 8, 2020 (against St. Mary's, which was LCU's final game before the COVID-19 shutdown).
- Muniz's 4-for-4 is a career high (four hits) and she is the second Lady Chap to have four hits in a game this season (Wysocki had four hits against Colo. Colorado Springs on Feb. 21).
- Gibbs was appearing in her first game since a Feb. 5 hand injury and hit a home run on her first at-bat since the incident for her first collegiate home run for the freshman. She is the seventh different Lady Chaps member to homer this season.
- LCU was 3-for-6 in RBI opportunities, 6-for-17 with runners on base and 5-for-12 in two-out bats. Angela Donaldson was 2-for-2 in two-out at-bats (1-for-1 with runners in scoring position).
