Chaps Seeking Bounce-Back Win

LCU Can Even Series Saturday

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (14-18, 12-16 LSC) vs.
UT PERMIAN BASIN (12-18, 9-16 LSC)
Saturday, April 24 – 2 p.m.
Roden Field – Odessa, Texas

LEADING OFF
It was a back-and-forth battle in the series opener between Lubbock Christian University and UT Permian Basin that the Falcons ended with a walkoff home run, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The Chaps will try and even things up with a win in game two of the series on Saturday at Roden Field. LCU has won six of their last eight games and has not lost back-to-back games since April 1-3 against West Texas A&M. UTPB's only consecutive wins in Lone Star Conference play this year came in a sweep against Cameron March 11-12.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – Owen Woodward will get the ball as the Chaps try and even up the series, making his third-straight weekend start. The Breckenridge, Texas native leads the team with a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 innings of work. He started the season in the bullpen, going 16.1 innings before he ever allowed an earned run. At this point in the season he has allowed 11 runs on 22 hits and 10 walks while striking out 30 batters. Opponents are hitting .202 against him. In his last start, Woodward allowed just two runs on five hits in five innings of work with no walks and a career0high eight strikeouts.

UTPB – Spencer Cofer is the probable starter for the Falcons as they go for the series win on Saturday, bringing in an ERA of 11.77 in 26 innings of work this season. He has made eight total appearances, including six starts. He has allowed 37 runs on 36 hits and really struggles with his control, having issued 23 walks while striking out 25 batters. Opponents this season have hit .336 against him. He has also uncorked six wild pitches and hit three batters.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
20 | Luis Navarro caught his 20th runner stealing this season in Friday's game, which is far and away the LSC lead. It is also the most by any Chap catcher in the last 12 seasons, which has far back as records go
8.89 | Despite allowing seven runs in the opener, UTPB's staff ERA actually dropped to 8.89, which is still the third-highest mark in the LSC
.297 | The Chaps left 12 runners on base in Friday's series-opener and are now 113-381 (.297) with runners in scoring position this year
6.0 | Falcon starter Spencer Cofer's season-high is 6.0 innings pitched in a March 19 UTPB win over Southwest (N.M.) in which he allowed two runs on four hits and one walk
.140 | LCU starter Owen Woodward has been especially good when runners are on base this year, limiting opponents to a .140 batting average in those situations
