Game 1

LCU Highlights:

Turning Point:
Trailing 4-1 in the fifth inning, LCU had a pair of singles (Skylar Herrera, Brooke Makemson) to open the inning, but they were unable to score any runs, leaving the two runners stranded.

How it Happened:
  • Ericka Gomez hit a pinch-hit single to score a pair of runs, with one out in the second inning, for a 2-0 StMU lead. The Rattlers added to the lead with a bunt single that third baseman Alivia Villarreal threw wide of the bag, allowing two runners to score to cap a four-run inning.
  • Kamryn Gibbs hit a sacrifice fly to plate Villarreal in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-1. Savannah Wysocki followed with a single, but Dakota Stotyn, who was originally at second base, was thrown out at home from centerfield.
  • LCU loaded the bases in the seventh inning with one out. Makemson scored on a wild pitch, but Athena Muniz hit into a 1-2 fielder's choice and Angela Donaldson popped up to end the game.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco took the hard-luck loss (13-7), as for the sixth time this season, LCU scored two runs or less during her start (she suffers her third straight loss and LCU has combined for three runs in the three games). She went the distance for her 17th complete game of the season.
  • LCU produced their 15th sacrifice fly of the season. It was the first for Kamryn Gibbs and she is the seventh different Lady Chap to record a sacrifice fly this season.
  • StMU was 0-for-6 in two-out at-bats and LCU was 0-for-2 in bases-loaded at-bats.
  • The Lady Chaps stranded 10 base runners.
  • LCU had four batters hit in the game, with Alivia Villarreal pegged twice. Both are season-high marks. The last time a Lady Chap was hit twice was on Feb. 28, 2020, as Brooke Makemson was hit twice, and the last time LCU had at least four batters hit was on Mar. 7, 2015 against Newman.

Game 2

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
LCU had one run off one hit and three errors in the seventh inning, as they took their first lead of the day off a hard-luck error on left-fielder Victoria Aldridge. Skylar Herrera nearly had a grand slam, but Aldridge went back and reached against the fence at the yellow-top-of-the-fence-line  and kept the ball in play but was unable to make the catch. Herrera was credited with a RBI and Alessandra Rosalez scored the eventual winning run.

How it Happened:
  • A wild pitch by Dakota Stotyn with two outs led to StMU's Reba Reyes scoring from third base in the second inning for a 1-0 lead.
  • Abigail Carner ended a 0-for-9 sequence on the day for StMU batters in two-out at-bats with a two-out single in the third inning for a 2-0 StMU lead.
  • Wysocki led off the sixth inning with a double and Herrera followed with a single. Makemson drove in Wysocki, and Muniz followed later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2
  • Two infield errors and an infield single by Wysocki loaded the bases in the seventh inning for LCU with one out. That situation led to Herrera nearly hitting a grand slam on a ruling of error on Aldridge and a sacrifice fly for Herrera to give LCU the lead at 3-2.
  • Stotyn hit the Rattlers leadoff batter in the bottom of the seventh inning, and after a sacrifice bunt, she was replaced with Taylor Franco, who came in and claimed the save with the tying run at third base.

Inside the Numbers:
  • The Lady Chaps won their first game of the season when trailing after five innings (1-10) and when tied after six innings (1-3).
  • Dakota Stotyn claimed her 10th win of the season (10-3), giving LCU two pitchers with at least 10 wins on the season (second time over the last four seasons and the first since 2019 in which LCU has had two pitchers with at least 10 wins).
  • StMU committed six errors, marking the most by an LCU opponent since UT Permian Basin posted six errors on April 24, 2013 (eight years to the day).
  • LCU moved into the conference lead in sacrifice flies with 17 on the season, as they tied a season high (third time on the season) with two sacrifice flies. Their 17 is the most since 19 in the 2016 season. Skylar Herrera has a conference leading six on the season (Athena Muniz moved into second in the conference with her fourth), and the amount is the highest single-season total by a Lady Chaps member since McKenzie Clemmons and Megan Sullivan each had six in the 2013 season.
  • LCU moved to 17-21 all-time against StMU with the doubleheader split, and they are now 7-16 in San Antonio against the Rattlers.

WHAT'S NEXT
Sunday, LCU heads to Austin, Texas for a Lone Star Conference doubleheader against St. Edward's, which gets underway with a noon first-pitch.
