Game 1

LCU Highlights:

Turning Point:
With two outs in the second inning, LCU had four straight batters reach base safely. RBI-singles from Savannah Wysocki and Brooke Makemson was followed by a two-run double from Tyla Lee for a five-run inning.

How it Happened:
  • LCU opened the scoring early, with the game's leadoff hitter, Savannah Wysocki walking and scoring on an ensuing single by Skyler Herrera, which was booted in the outfield and allowed Herrera to scamper to third base. She Scored on a Makemson groundout.
  • The Lady Chaps followed with four hits and five runs in the second inning. Alivia Villareal scored on a wild pitch before Wysocki and Makemson each had RBI singles. Tyla Lee closed the scoring in the inning with a two-out two-run double to left-centerfield for a 7-0 lead.
  • SEU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning with no outs, and LCU was able to get a pair of fielder's choice put-outs at home, but a wild pitch allowed SEU to score their first run of the game.
  • Valerie Brant, a former SEU transfer to LCU that returned to SEU, hit a double down the left field line to score a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • LCU added to their conference-leading sacrifice fly total with Alivia Villareal plating pinch runner Hailey Jones with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning. Kamryn Gibbs followed with an RBI-single with two outs.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco ended a sequence of three consecutive losses with her second road win of the season to improve to 14-7 on the season. She went the distance for her 18th complete game of the season.
  • Alexa Riggs started and made her first start since Feb. 21. Riggs, who has been battling multiple sclerosis, had her first plate appearances since Feb. 21 as well.
  • LCU chased SEU starting pitcher McKenna Leamon, who went 1.2 innings and allowed five runs off four hits.
  • The Lady Chaps matched a season high with two sacrifice bunts.
  • Taylor Franco forced SEU into 15 ground outs and one fly-out. Skyler Herrera had five assists among the 15 ground outs.
  • LCU was 6-for-7 getting the leadoff batter aboard base.

Game 2

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Trailing 3-0, SEU had two runners in scoring position and the tying run at the plate (top of the lineup with Genisa Marrero-Carter at the plate) with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marrero-Carter lined out to Savannah Wysocki in centerfield, who was able to double-up the runner at second base. It extinguished the rally and helped keep SEU off the scoreboard.

How it Happened:
  • LCU had a run in each of the first two innings. Three walks were issued in the first inning and Wysocki scored on a wild pitch, which was the first run before Villarreal (second inning) and Lee (third inning) each hit solo home runs for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Athena Muniz led off the sixth inning with a triple and would score on a groundout hit into by Villarreal for a 4-0 lead.

Inside the Numbers:
  • The Lady Chaps had another game consisting of two sacrifice bunts, marking the first time LCU had at least two sacrifice bunts in consecutive games since April 22, 2011 at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
  • Dakota Stotyn claimed her 11th win of the season (11-3) and her first complete game shutout as a member of the Lady Chaps. She has allowed one run over her prior three starts, which spans 20.1 innings. She did not walk a batter and has only walked six batters this season in 85.1 innings (only walked at least one batter in four of her 21 appearances this season).
  • Alivia Villarreal's home run was her fifth of the season and 12th of her LCU career, while Lee's home run was her seventh of the season and her LCU career. LCU has four players with at least seven home runs on the season.
  • LCU's five hits were their fewest in a victory this season.
  • The Lady Chaps accomplished their 13th shutout of the season, which co-leads them nationally with LSC foes UT Tyler and A&M-Commerce.
  • LCU improved to 19-7 overall against SEU all-time and 8-5 all-time in Austin against SEU. The wins marked the first time in program history in which LCU swept SEU in Austin.
