  • Tuesday's matchup is the quarterfinal game of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The winner will advance to face either Angelo State or St. Mary's in the semifinals

POSTSEASON PLAY
In a year so weird soccer season has been pushed to the spring, Lubbock Christian University came out of women's soccer season with a 5-3 Lone Star Conference record, reaching the postseason tournament as the No. 2 seed in their division. The seed earned LCU a first round bye and a chance to host the game against the winner of the game between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds, which St. Edward's won. This is the second-straight year for the Lady Chaps to host an LSC Tournament game. Last year they battled Angelo State through two overtimes before eventually winning in PKs thanks to a save by goalkeeper Hannah Wise.

REGULAR SEASON REVIEW
The Lady Chaps reached the No. 2 division seed in the LSC Tournament by posting a 5-3 overall record in their eight games of the regular season. Three of those wins came at home, where LCU was 3-1, posting a winning record for the ninth straight year. On the road they were 2-2. Lubbock Christian mainly used its defense to win games, holding opponents to an average of one goal per game while scoring 1.34 per game themselves. They have already beaten Tuesday's opponent St. Edward's once, winning 2-0 at home on March 17.

DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE
LCU's defense really began to click in the last half of the season, as they shut out four of their final five opponents as well as a shutout in a scrimmage on March 27. With the shutout in the regular season finale of St. Mary's, the Lady Chaps lowered their goals against average to just 1.00, which is the fourth-best mark in the Lone Star Conference. LCU opponents have attempted an average of just 9.1 shots per game and only 36 shots on goal all year while earning just 28 corner kicks. Shadiana Haney and Kaylen McNatt have led the Lady Chap back line, playing 702 and 669 minutes, respectively.

LAST LINE OF DEFENSE
The Lady Chaps have a wealth of experience in goal for them this season in keeper Hannah Wise. The Midlothian native and Preseason LSC Goalkeeper of the Year has been a four-year starter for the Lady Chaps, seeing action in 63 games across her career. She already has the program record for saves with 194, 28 of which have come this season. In her career (5668 minutes), she has allowed an average of .97 goals per game while posting a save percentage of .761.

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL
In all five of their wins this season, Lubbock Christian has been the first team to find the back of the net, and they are 5-1 this year when scoring first. The only game they did not win when scoring first was the Feb. 27 matchup with Angelo State. Furthermore, they are 5-0 this season when leading at halftime. The Lady Chaps have scored seven first half goals and allowed just one. They have 51 first-half shots and 28 first-half corner kicks, compared to just 31 shots and eight corner kicks from their opponents in the first half.

NEW HOME, WHO DIS?
Tuesday's game will be the fifth at home this year for Lubbock Christian, where they are 3-1 so far. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex, which was completed in 2020, features a turf playing surface with an eight-lane track around the perimeter, lights for night games and stadium seating for up to 500 fans. The Lady Chaps have historically been excellent at home under head coach Alex Denning never posting a losing record on their own field in his tenure. LCU has scored five goals on their home field this season, outshooting their opponents 51 to 36 there and holding them to just two goals.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
  • St. Edward's enters Tuesday's matchup on a three-game winning streak, having beaten each of their last three opponents 3-0. Their last loss was on March 17 at Lubbock Christian
  • The Hilltoppers average 1.63 goals per game, which is the sixth-best mark in the league, and they allow just 1.00 goals per game, which is tied for the fourth-best in the LSC
  • Sarah Preston leads the team in points, shots and shots on goal. She has scored three times and has one assist on the year
  • Meghan Dunning has been SEU's main goalkeeper for the year, making 23 saves and posting a .742 save percentage with three shutouts
  • Nick Cowell has been at the helm of the St. Edward's women's soccer program for 15 seasons and has a 215-51-27 all-time record with the team

THE SERIES WITH THE HILLTOPPERS
