Chaps Have Chance to Even Series Saturday

LCU Sending Freshman Woodward to the Mound

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (16-19, 14-17 LSC) vs.
UT TYLER (24-14, 22-12 LSC)
Friday, May 1 – 2 p.m.
Hays Field – Lubbock, Texas

LEADING OFF
For the second straight weekend, Lubbock Christian University has dropped the series opener and will need to win the next two games to come back and take the series win. After building an early 5-2 lead against UT Tyler on Friday, the Patriots came back and took game two 10-8, even though the Chaps actually lead in the hits category 11-9. A win Saturday would keep the possibility of LCU winning its fourth-straight series alive.

SENIOR DAY
The Chaps will honor the program's graduating seniors just before the start of Saturday's game. Shortstop Colin Gordon is the only graduating player, but LCU will also recognize student assistants Jerrod Fowler and Logan McCrummen, who are also seniors.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – Freshman right-hander Owen Woodward, with his team-leading 2.48 ERA, will be the starting pitcher for the Chaps on Saturday. He has pitched 36.1 total innings this year, allowing 10 earned runs on 26 hits and 12 walks with opponents batting just .198 against him. Woodward was used entirely out of the bullpen to start the season before moving into a starting role on April 10 against Eastern New Mexico. He has made three total starts, posting an ERA of 3.78 in 16.2 innings of work, allowing seven earned runs on 14 hits and just three walks with 22 strikeouts in the starting role. He pitched a career-high six innings with three earned runs allowed in his most recent start against UT Permian Basin.

UTT – Jacob Blatney is the likely candidate to get the ball for the Patriots in game two. He is the only UT Tyler player to have made 10 starts this season, bringing in a 4.95 ERA in 43.2 innings of work. He has allowed 27 runs overall on 49 hits and 23 walks while striking out 51 batters.
