Hilltoppers Took Two of Three During Regular Season Series

No 6-seed LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (21-22) at
No. 8-seed ST. EDWARD'S (17-22)
Friday, May 21 – Noon
Foster Field – San Angelo, Texas

LEADING OFF
Lubbock Christian University has their backs against the wall once again taking on St. Edward's in an elimination game in the second round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at noon Friday at Angelo State's Foster Field. The Chaps find themselves in the loser's bracket after suffering a 15-3 loss to the host and No. 2-seed Rams on Thursday night. The Hilltoppers are facing elimination after a 5-3 loss to No. 5-seed St. Mary's in the first game of the second round. SEU nearly came back in the game, plating a run and loading the bases with one out in the ninth, but a groundout ended their rally effort.

HOW WE GOT HERE
Both the Chaps and Hilltoppers pulled off first round upsets to even get to San Angelo this weekend. LCU came back and won the final two games of a series against the No. 3-seed Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road, despite being just one out away from elimination in the second game. SEU pulled off an even more stunning series win, taking the final two games on the road against No. 1-seed West Texas A&M and scoring 45 runs in the two games combined.

STARTNG PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – The Chaps will likely be sending freshman Owen Woodward to the mound to take on St. Edward's. The Breckenridge, Texas native will be making his 15th appearance overall and his sixth start of the year. He has a 4.50 ERA in 48 innings of work. The right-hander has allowed 31 runs (24 earned) on 41 hits and 22 walks. Opponents are hitting .227 against him. He was a reliever to start the season and did not allow an earned run for hist first 16.1 innings of work. In his five starts, Woodward has a 5.96 ERA in 22.2 innings of work. His last start (game two vs. TAMUK), he allowed four earned runs on two hits but walked six while striking out a pair.

SEU – The Hilltoppers are starting a right-hander, which means either Blake Holub or Jack Granack will get the ball. Holub leads the team with a 2.56 ERA in 59.2 innings of work. He has allowed just 17 earned runs and is limiting opponents to .223 average with 73 strikeouts. He started the finale against West Texas A&M last Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits with 12 strikeouts in eight innings of work. Granack has made 12 appearances – all starts – this year. He has a 4.76 ERA in 70 innings of work. The freshman has allowed 66 hits while striking out 49 batters with an opponent's average of .253. Granack started game two of the WT series, allowing just three earned runs in five innings of work.
