Series Even for Regular Season Finale

Chaps Already Secured LSC No. 6 Seed

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (18-21, 16-19 LSC) vs.
OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (24-13, 21-11 LSC)
Sunday, May 9 – 1 p.m.
Hays Field – Lubbock, Texas

LEADING OFF
Taking advantage of a windy day in Lubbock on Saturday, Lubbock Christian evened up the series with Oklahoma Christian at one game apiece and can go for a series win on Sunday. A win in the regular season finale would put them at 19-21 heading into the postseason, just a game below .500. The series has been a slugfest so far, with both teams hitting above .350 through the first two games. Winds will not be as high as they were for Saturday's 23-13 LCU romp, but conditions will be ripe for scoring once again.

WHERE IT STANDS
The Chaparrals have secured their No. 6 seed spot and cannot move up any higher or drop any lower depending on the outcome of Sunday's game. Oklahoma Christian still has some uncertainty though, not knowing whether they will be the No. 3 or No. 4 seed for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The team right behind them, Texas A&M-Kingsville, lost on Saturday, meaning the Eagles can hold onto their No. 3 spot with a win on Sunday.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP
LCU – Odessa, Texas native Shandon Herrera will get the nod for the series finale, making his 11th start of the season. The right-hander has a 7.27 ERA in 43.1 innings of work this year. He has allowed 36 runs on 52 hits with opponents batting .315 against him. He has also allowed 22 free passes but struck out 34 batters as well. Herrera has worked entirely as a starter this year and is actually the team leader in wins with a 5-2 record. He struggled in his last outing though, going just two innings and allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in the series finale against UT Tyler. He avoided the loss because his offense scored 12 unanswered runs to come back and secure the win.

OC – Julien Ly will likely go to the mound as the Eagles try and control their own fate, making his 10th start and 11th appearance of the year. Ly has the best numbers of any Oklahoma Christian starting pitcher, posting a 4.72 ERA in 47.2 innings of work. Opponents have hit the lefty pretty well with a .303 average against him for 61 hits, but he has limited the damage for just 33 runs while walking 21 and striking out 49. In his last start, Ly went six innings on the mound, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks with just two strikeouts against Arkansas-Fort Smith.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
.285 | Lubbock Christian hasn't been quite as good hitting against left-handers this season, batting .285 against them compared to .309 against righties
4.33 | Chap starter Herrera is averaging just over four innings per appearance this year, so the bullpen is likely to factor in heavily
10 | With four home runs in the first two games of this series, LCU outfielder Larry Leitha has become the first Chap to reach the double-digit mark in that category, despite only 92 at-bats on the year (ninth-most on the team)
.865 | There have been no LCU triples this weekend, but three doubles and 11 home runs have their slugging percentage against OC at .865 with 64 total bases
0 | Oklahoma Christian has not attempted a stolen base yet this weekend. They are 36-46 on the basepaths this season
