LUBBOCK, Texas (June 24, 2021) – The 2020-21 school term presented challenging tasks for university academic administrators, professors and student-athletes as they juggled COVID-19 and the continued efforts towards an athletic competition season and complying with medical protocols. Despite the obstacles, the Lubbock Christian University Athletic Department excelled in the classroom, as it recorded its 18^th consecutive semester with at least a 3.0 grade point average, which marks all semesters since the data starts from the 2012-13 school-term (LCU's first transitioning semesters from NAIA to NCAA Division II membership). In the process, the Lone Star Conference recognized 125 Lubbock Christian University individuals with Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades and named the Lady Chaparrals women's basketball team the LSC Women's Basketball Academic Champion.
 
LCU student-athletes combined for a 3.20 GPA in the Spring semester, with 158 (65.8%) earning at least a 3.0 GPA and 48 claiming a perfect 4.0.  The Lone Star Conference recognized 125 LCU student-athletes with Commissioner's Honor Roll honors during the semester. Putting the 2020-21 semesters together, LCU had 99 student-athletes recognized with a 4.0 semester and 257 Commissioner's Honor Roll awards (125 in the spring and 132 in the fall… LSC also recognizes student-trainers). LCU named 58 student-athletes to the Dean's List and 39 were named to the President's List.
 
The LCU women's basketball program not only claimed their third NCAA Division II national title in program history this season (and semester), but they led all LCU programs in the semester with a 3.75 GPA in the spring (edged out women's soccer, who claimed a 3.70 GPA for the semester). The women's basketball program had a 3.78 GPA for the complete school term, finishing ahead of all women's basketball programs in the LSC. It led to LCU receiving LSC Women's Basketball Academic Champion accolades (presented by Balfour). Ten (10) members of the LCU women's basketball program completed the Spring semester with a 4.0 GPA.
 
Of LCU's 12 programs (cross country, indoor and outdoor track are combined into one sport per gender, and women's competitive cheer is also included despite it not being a NCAA sport), eight had at least a 3.0 team GPA. Men's soccer had a 3.33 GPA to lead the male programs at LCU.
