Highlights
Lubbock Christian University closed out their stay at the Eagle Invitational and their opening weekend of play with a 3-0 win over Bentley Saturday morning. LCU had a balanced performance in the straight-set win, as they hit .300 and had an 11-1 advantage in blocks in the victory. LCU did not have any individuals in double figures in kills, but had a trio of players with at least eight kills.

Aaliyah Gray each had nine kills, as
Hannah Froeschl supplied LCU with eight kills and seven blocks.
Kayton Genenbacher produced her first career double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs (also had four kills). Bentley, who is preseason picked to finish second in the Northeast-10 Conference, received a match-high 12 kills from Ellie Wheeler, who also completed a double-double with 14 digs.
How It Happened
Set One:
Sage Post and
Aaliyah Gray paced the Lady chaps early, as each had four kills in the opening set. Bentley had the early advantage, as consecutive aces served by Caitlin Wunder provided Bentley a 7-4 lead. LCU came back and the teams battled through nine occasions the score was tied in the set before the Lady Chaps used a 6-0 run to overcome a 14-11 deficit and take a 17-14 lead. The run was part of a 14-6 close of the set for the Lady Chaps, who won the set 25-20.
Set Two:
The second set featured the turning point of the match late in the set. Following a Post kill to put LCU up 21-15, Bentley responded with an 8-1 run to take a 23-22. LCU head coach
Keith Giboney called a pivotal timeout, as Froeschl tied the set 23-23 with a kill. Gray followed with a kill for a 24-23 lead, setting up an exciting set-point play. LCU libero
Kendall Mahaney made a diving dig to keep a rally alive, which ended with a
Sage Post kill for the 25-23 set win. LCU won the set despite Bentley producing a 17-16 kill advantage, with Ingrid Murphy and Ellie Wheeler each with five kills for BU. Froeschl and Post each had four kills for LCU.
Set Three:
Bentley ran out of gas after LCU stymied their comeback attempt in the second set. LCU opened the third set with a 14-4 lead and cruised with a 16-7 kill advantage to win the final set 25-13. Eight different Lady Chaps had at least one kill in the frame, and Mahaney had two aces and eight digs.
