NATIONALLY KNOWN
The Lady Chaps claimed the No.1 spot in the WBCA's National Top-25 Preseason Poll for the first time in program history this year, and also for the first time they were the favorites in both the WBCA and D2SIDA preseason polls. LCU fell to CSU Pueblo in Lakewood, Colo., which ended their 39-game win streak and knocked them out of the No.1 spot. For three consecutive polls, LCU was not in the No.1 spot, but they worked their way back to the top spot in the WBCA poll. Their return to No.1 status lasted through two WBCA and one D2SIDA poll before their loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville resulted in them showing up at No.6 (WBCA) and No.7 (D2SIDA) in the following week's polls. They worked back up to No.2 (D2SIDA) and No.4 (WBCA), but fell to No.10 last week (both polls) after falling at A&M-Commerce. They are currently No.8 in WBCA and No.11 in D2SIDA. Overall this season, LCU has been No.1 in three WBCA polls and two D2SIDA polls (They have been in the Top-10 all season in the WBCA).

PRIOR MEETING VS. UTPB
LUBBOCK, Texas (February 21, 2021) – No.1 Lubbock Christian University had four players in double figures and all four were seniors, making it a special Senior Day inside Rip Griffin Center, as Allie Schulte had 16 points to lead the Lady Chaparrals to a 72-48 Lone Star Conference West Division victory over UT Permian Basin. The win was even more special as LCU matched a NCAA Division II women's basketball record with their 87th consecutive home victory inside Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps, who last tasted a home defeat on January 1, 2015, matched the NCAA Division II women's basketball mark completed by Nebraska-Kearney (Jan. 31, 1995-Nov. 24, 2001). The current streak includes a 7-0 record in NCAA postseason games, and Sunday's win extended their home win streak in conference games to 73 straight games (20-0 for Lone Star Conference home matches).

LCU and UTPB both had sluggish starts to Sunday's contest. The Lady Chaps opened the game 3-of-13 from the field, while UTPB was 1-of-15 off the opening tip. An 18-7 UTPB rebound advantage in the first quarter led to seven more field goal attempts in the quarter and the Falcons used it to their advantage, taking an 8-7 lead at the close of the opening quarter.

Despite a six-minute stretch in the first quarter without a field goal, LCU never faced anything bigger than a three-point deficit. Schulte, held scoreless in the first quarter, helped rally back the Lady Chaps. She scored LCU's first points of the second quarter, and after LCU trailed 12-9, the Lady Chaps went on a 12-0 run, with Schulte scoring four of the points. She had eight points in the quarter and helped LCU take a 27-20 halftime lead.

LCU closed the half on a 4-0 run and opened the second half on a 7-0 run to combine for an 11-0 run and a 38-20 lead. The Lady Chaps were 0-of-8 from three-point range in the first half, and Ashton Duncan started the 7-0 portion of the 11-0 run with a three-pointer. LCU shot 64.3% from the field in the third quarter and took a 53-37 lead into the final frame.

UTPB was held to three field goals in the final quarter. They went a span of 4:12 without a field goal and went the final 3:57 of the game without a field goal. LCU, using an 11-2 run in the quarter, received 13 of their 19 points in the quarter from seniors.

The Lady Chaps shot 58.1% (18/31) from the field in the second half, going 15-of-21 (71.4%) inside the arc. Seniors Duncan, Emma Middleton, Juliana Robertson, Madelyn Turner and Schulte combined for 36 points in the second half and accounted for 80% of LCU's 45 points in the second half.

Along with Schulte's 16 points (she also led LCU with seven rebounds and posted three blocks), LCU received 14 points from Middleton, 13 from Turner and 11 from Duncan. LCU, shooting 49% (25/51) in the game, finished the contest with a 42-14 scoring advantage in points in the paint.
