Lubbock Christian University kept their Lone Star Conference postseason hopes alive with a 3-0 straight-set road win Saturday afternoon at Cameron inside Aggie Gym. LCU completed the task behind a season-high 12 aces, with five registered by
Chloe Menard. LCU also received a match-high 14 kills from
Kiana Fallaha, as LCU had a 39-21 advantage in kills.
Kendall Mahaney averaged 5.7 digs per set, totaling 17 digs in the match. Arianna Navarrete led Cameron with eight kills.
How It Happened
Set One:
Despite the score being knotted up five times early in the set, LCU never trailed in the frame. With the score tied 11-11, LCU's
Sage Chain produced a kill to spark a 5-1 run, which included serving aces from
Kendall Mahaney and
Kayton Genenbacher. Leading 19-17, LCU closed the set on a 6-3 run for a 25-20 set win. The Lady Chaps, who had a 16-9 kill advantage in the set, received six kills from Fallaha. They also received seven digs by Mahaney and a pair of aces from Genenbacher.
Set Two:
LCU utilized a 4-0 and 6-0 run in the second set to build a 13-4 advantage, but the Aggies would march back. Cameron went on a 7-1 run to cut LCU's lead to 19-18. LCU surged from a 21-20 lead scoring the final four points of the set, including the third ace of the match from Genenbacher, to win the set 25-20. The Lady Chaps held a 14-7 kill advantage in the set, with Chain leading LCU with four kills. Cameron was limited to a .027 attack percentage.
Set Three:
Kills by
Payton Murray and Fallaha, added with an ace from
Olivia Elofsson, put LCU up 8-3 early in the third set, but the Aggies responded with a 5-0 run to tie the set 8-8. Tied 9-9, LCU used a 6-0 run and 10-0 run to outscore Cameron 16-3 to close the set. LCU's 10-0 run to close the match featured five aces and they were all from Menard. LCU posted seven aces in the final set. The Lady Chaps had a .240 to -.036 advantage in kill percentage, with Fallaha leading all players with five kills in the frame.
