Highlights
Lubbock Christian University's hopes of postseason play vanished Wednesday night at Greyhound Arena, as LCU fell 3-1 to Eastern New Mexico. LCU had to win the Lone Star Conference match and road finale to keep their hopes alive for a berth to the LSC Championships. ENMU was paced by Gracelyn Stubbs (22), Kali Nelson (13) and Mikaela Garvin (11) who combined for 46 of ENMU's 65 kills. Qitana Sapiga produced a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs.
Payton Murray led LCU with 11 kills and was the lone Lady Chaps member in double figures in kills.
How It Happened
Set One:
LCU trailed most of the opening set, having leads of 6-2, 12-7 and 14-10, but ENMU marched back with 6-2 run to take a 19-18 lead.
Payton Murray had consecutive kills to regain the LCU lead (20-19). LCU led 23-22, but the Greyhounds responded from a timeout with kills from Gracelyn Stubbs and Kali Nelson to setup set-point.
Kalli Dalland produced a kill to tie the set 24-24, but ENMU received consecutive kills by Stubbs to claim the set 26-24. The teams combined for 33 kills in the set, with 18 by ENMU, who was led in the set by Stubbs (7 kills). LCU's Murray led the Lady Chaps with five kills.
Set Two:
With the score tied 10-10, a kill by Mikaela Garvin sparked a 6-0 Greyhounds run for a 16-10 lead. They built the lead to 22-14 before LCU went on a 4-0 run capped by an ace from Olivia Eloffson. The deficit was too much to overcome, as LCU fell in the set 25-20. Stubbs and Garvin each had four kills in the set for ENMU, while LCU was held to a .047 attack percentage in the set.
Set Three:
LCU opened with a 6-1 lead, but ENMU used a 6-1 and 6-0 run to jump out to a 17-11 advantage. A pair of kills by
Kaitlyn Mayo helped LCU go on a 6-0 run to tie the set at 17-17. The two teams went back and fourth and ENMU served match-point leading 24-23. Murray had a kill to prolong the set before Mayo and Dalland combined for a block and Dalland had a kill on the ensuing point to complete a 3-0 run to win the set 26-24. Dalland and Mayo each had four kills in the set and
Kayton Genenbacher produced 12 assists in the set, which witnessed the score tied on 12 occasions.
Set Three:
The Lady Chaps did not have any momentum carrying over the prior set win, as the Greyhounds opened the set on a 5-0 run and led 7-2 early. A kill by
Hailey Cournoyer helped LCU pull within three (10-7). ENMU put it into cruise control leading 16-12, closing the set and match on a 9-3 scoring surge for a 25-15 set win. Stubbs had eight of her 22 kills in the final set.
