Highlights
Lubbock Christian University celebrated Senior Day and closed out their season with a 3-1 Lone Star Conference win over Western New Mexico Saturday inside Rip Griffin Center. The win moved LCU into a share of eighth place in the LSC standings (with Angelo State), but ASU won the regular season meeting and the tiebreaker allows ASU to attend the LSC Championships. Senior Mady McCully was out due to injury, but Sage Chain and Hailey Cournoyer took advantage of Senior Day. Chain led LCU with 13 kills, six blocks, four aces and an .812 attack percentage and Cournoyer added six kills and a trio of blocks. Kayton Genenbacher posted a career-high nine kills, which put her one shy of completing a triple-double, as she contributed 37 assists and 15 digs. LCU had a 59-33 advantage in kills, as Aaliyah Gray (12) and Kaitlyn Mayo (11) each finished in double-figures in kills. Jazmyne Walker led WNMU in the loss with 10

How It Happened

Set One:
The opening set is one the Lady Chaps would have liked back. Trailing 17-13, LCU went on a 5-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills from Aaliyah Gray to go up 19-17. WNMU retook the lead on an ace from Eliana Moultrie (20-19) before LCU answered with a 4-2 run with Gray popping in an ace in the mix to go up 23-22. The lead would slip away on a 3-0 run to close the set by WNMU. Sage Chain led LCU in the set with five kills and a block. LCU had a 15-13 kill advantage in the set.

Set Two:
The Lady Chaps bounced back in the second set with ease. Chain opened the set with a kill and followed with a pair of aces, as LCU opened the set with a 4-0 advantage. WNMU pulled within a point of the Lady Chaps (6-5) with a 5-0 run, which was part of a 16-3 scoring surge for the Lady Chaps. They claimed the set 25-12 behind an 11-5 advantage in kills (Chain led LCU with four kills) and a kill-percentage advantage of .286 to -.100.

Set Three:
LCU's numbers progressed as the set played out, as LCU hit .371 in the third set, which opened with a Chain kill and a 5-0 run. Genenbacher and Gray each had a pair of kills to help fill a 7-0 run, which was part of an 11-1 scoring binge and LCU led 18-6. Gray (5) and Genenbacher (4) combined for nine kills, as LCU had a 16-4 kill advantage.

Set Four:
LCU hit a stellar .424 in the final set, using another fast start for a 9-3 lead. They grabbed separation with a 5-0 run for a 15-5 advantage. WNMU did go on a 6-1 run and cut the LCU lead to 20-16, but a kill by Payton Murray helped LCU get the next two points and they paced for a 25-19 set win. Mayo led LCU with five kills in the frame. Murray and Genenbacher each had a trio of kills, as LCU had 17 kills in the set (their most for the match).

Inside the Numbers:
8-4 LCU was one of six LSC teams to have at least eight wins at home this season, as the win closed the season with LCU having an 8-4 home record this season.
9 Kayton Genenbacher had a career-high nine-kill performance to go along with her team-leading 10th double-double of the season (11th in her career), as she posted 37 assists and 15 kills. She was a kill away from LCU's first triple-double since Marla Lowery completed the task on Oct. 5, 1990 against Houston Baptist (now Houston Christian).
17 LCU had 17 kills in the fourth set, which matched a season-high for kills in a single set this season.
13 Sage Chain, who set a career high with four aces, matched her jersey number with 13 kills. She completed her LCU career with 569 kills, and 269 blocks (71 solo… 77 would have broke her into the top-10 in program history).
1-12 The Lady Chaps were 0-12 until Saturday when losing the first set, as Saturday marked the first time this season they won a match when dropping the first set.
7-7 The all-time series between LCU and WNMU is now tied 7-7. LCU has won six consecutive meetings.

Next
That is a wrap on LCU's 2022 season and the second under head coach Keith Giboney. LCU wraps up the season with an 11-16 overall mark.
