BREAK TIME IS OVER
With Lubbock Christian University participating in the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. (Dec. 16-17), LCU's Christmas Break is a short-lived one (13 days, which is their shortest break since a 12-day break in 2019-20). The continuation of the Lone Star Conference schedule welcomes them back to Rip Griffin Center, with Cameron (Friday at 5:30 p.m.) and Midwestern State (Sunday at 1 p.m.) coming to the Hub City. The games are LSC contests, but in addition, they are LCU's first West Division contests of the season. This season, the East Division and West Division leaders will occupy the top two seeds at the LSC Championship (tournament), with the remaining six seeds/berths determined by the top teams based on overall conference record.
CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY
In their last game played prior to the break,
Audrey Robertson posted a career-high 19 points and Lubbock Christian University claimed their first neutral site win and first win over a nationally ranked program this season, as the Lady Chaparrals edged No.15 Montana State Billings 60-58 at the Holiday Hoops Classic inside South Point Arena. LCU won by holding on late and while scoreless over the game's final 2:56.
Maci Maddox capped a 6-0 run with a jumper with 7:00 minutes remaining to put LCU up 54-46. Robertson would go on to tally the final six points for LCU, but her final field goal came with 3:41 remaining (put LCU up 58-54). MSUB's Natalie Andreas hit a pair of three-pointers to help them rally back. Cariann Kunkel cut LCU's lead to 60-58 with 1:12 remaining. Kenkel's field goal was the lone made field goal out of the Yellowjackets final five attempts. Kunkel missed a game-tying layup attempt with 39 seconds remaining. LCU closed the game in the same fashion, making one of their final five attempts. In the final 3:41,
Grace Foster missed a three-pointer and was unable to make a layup with seven seconds remaining, allowing MSUB one final opportunity after a timeout was called (following the rebound from Foster's miss). Kortney Nelson had a shot to tie the game at the horn, but it was unsuccessful and LCU held on for the win.

PRIOR MEETING VS. CU
LAWTON, Okla. (February 12, 2022)
Juliana Robertson exploded for a career-high double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, and No.10 Lubbock Christian University used an 18-0 run in the first quarter to claim a 75-49 Lone Star Conference road victory at Cameron at Aggie Gym.
After missing their first two shot attempts in the game, LCU made nine of their next 12 shots. After
Laynee Burr knocked down a three-pointer to start the game's scoring, LCU received their next six points and nine of the next 11 points from Robertson sisters Juliana (7) and Audrey (2).
Audrey Robertson was making her first career start and had three points of LCU's 18-0 run.
Juliana Robertson had seven of the points in the run, as the two combined for 10 of LCU's 18 points in the surge to provide the Lady Chaps a 21-3 lead with 1:41 remaining in the quarter.
Cameron was amidst a 1-of-14 shooting performance to open the game, as LCU took a 23-7 lead into the second quarter (Cameron had five of their seven points in the opening quarter scored from the line). The Aggies had a trend of free-throws that helped them hang around early. After five points from the line in the first quarter, Cameron five of the first seven Aggie points in the second quarter were scored from the line (10 of Cameron's first 14 points in the game were from the charity stripe) and four of the free tosses were part of a 6-0 run, which developed into 13-2 run to cut LCU's lead to 27-21 with four minutes left in the half. LCU was able to head to the break with momentum, as they responded with a 7-2 run (five points from Burr) to take a 34-23 lead into the locker room.
Burr finished with 10 points in the first half. LCU had a 17-8 scoring advantage in the half off points-off-turnover. Cameron had 10 of their 23 points from the free-throw line, as their 10-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line helped a 27.3% (6/22) shooting performance from the field.
LCU opened the second half on a 10-2 run, which included four points from
Juliana Robertson and a three-pointer from
Maci Maddox. The run placed the LCU lead at 44-25 with 4:04 left in the third quarter. Maddox led LCU with six points in the quarter and LCU took a 53-36 lead into the final frame.
Burr made a pair of free-throws with 11 seconds left in the third quarter and that carried into a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter, combining for a 15-3 run.
Audrey Robertson had the opening points of the fourth quarter on a layup before sister Juliana had seven points in the run, to put LCU up 66-39 (7:10 remaining). The game went stale in the final five minutes, as a
Grace Foster layup for LCU and Kassie Boorer field goal for Cameron were the only field goals in the final five minutes and neither team had a field goal in the final 2:39.
Juliana Robertson was 8-of-9 from the line in the second half and had 14 points in the second half, leading to her career high 23 points in the game. The double-double was Robertson's second of the season. She also added three blocks defensively and finished with a whopping +35 plus/minus. LCU also received 16 points from Burr and a career-high 12 points from
Maci Maddox, who was 3-of-3 from three-point range. LCU finished 44.2% (23/52) from the field. They shot 58.1% (18/31) inside the arc, as they were 23.8% (5/21) from outside (2-of-18 without Maddox's hot shooting from beyond the arc). LCU had a 42-24 advantage in rebounds, leading to a 15-0 scoring advantage in second-chance-scoring.
Cameron, who entered the contest leading the nation in three-point field goals per game, were held to two three-pointers in the contest (2/14, 14.3%). Maighan Hedge, who entered the game third nationally in scoring (21.9 points per game), finished with 15 points and was the Aggies only player in double figures. Cameron fell to 13-8 overall and 8-3 in conference.
