TURN THE CALENDAR
Lubbock Christian University ended a 13-day holiday break Friday with an 85-34 home victory over Cameron in LCU's West Division opener. They continue with Lone Star Conference West Division play Sunday with a New Year's Day tilt against Midwestern State inside Rip Griffin Center (1 p.m. tip). This season, the East Division and West Division leaders will occupy the top two seeds at the LSC Championship (tournament), with the remaining six seeds/berths determined by the top teams based on overall conference record.
BACK FROM BREAK
LCU, rested from the holiday break, opened their Lone Star Conference Western Division contest against Cameron Friday with 34 points in the first quarter and cruised to an 85-34 victory. Behind five Lady Chaparrals finishing in double-figures (in points), LCU garnered their 110th consecutive home victory inside Rip Griffin Center.
LCU opened the game on a 9-0 run, which was part of a 14-2 lead to start the contest. They eventually had an eight-minute span in the first half in which LCU surged with a 23-0 run. The 34-point quarter broke the prior record of 33 points, which was achieved on Mar. 1, 2018 in Tulsa, Okla. against Texas A&M International. The NCAA began using quarters in women's basketball during the 2015-16 season. LCU has achieved at least 30 points in a quarter three times this season.
Rachel Haase led LCU in the contest with 14 points. She hit four three-pointers on a career-high 10 attempts, which is a single-game high by a Lady Chaps member this season.
Grace Foster had 12 points, with all scored in the first half. Haase and Foster were joined in double figures by
Maci Maddox (11 points),
Audrey Robertson (11 points) and
Shaylee Stovall (10 points). Robertson also added a game-high eight rebounds and posted four assists. Ten (10) of LCU's 11 participants figured into the scoring. LCU was 47% (31/66) from the field, while holding CU to a 25% (14/56) shooting mark on the night. The Lady Chaps made a season-high 11 three-pointers (11/29).
LCU claimed a 48-33 advantage in rebounds. The 48 boards are the most since 48 on Mar. 29, 2019 (vs. Southwestern Oklahoma State in the NCAA Div. II title game in Columbus, Ohio) and the mark led to a season-high +15 rebounding margin. LCU had a 15-3 rebounding advantage in the opening quarter.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT MSU
1 > The Mustangs head into Lubbock 3-9 on the season. They have a 1-5 mark in LSC play (0-1 in the West Division) and they are 1-5 in road games this season. This is their second trip to Lubbock this season, as they opened the season with an 84-50 exhibition loss at Texas Tech. Tahoka, Texas native and Eastern New Mexico transfer Natalie Stice led MSU with 14 points.
2 > MSU, who entered the season No.9 in the LSC Preseason Poll (they finished tied for ninth in the LSC last season with an 8-8 conference mark and 18-11 overall), has Stice and Dyamon Griggs co-leading the squad in LSC play (averaging 13.7 points a game in conference competition). The Mustangs also have Kennedi Green (10.0) averaging double figures in points per conference game.
3 > Midwestern State fell in Canyon, Texas Friday night, 87-71 to West Texas A&M. Griggs, a freshman, matched a career and season high total in points with 26.
4 > MSU is fourth nationally in free-throws made per game with an average of 17.8. On Dec. 12, MSU was 35-of-46 from the free-throw line against St. Mary's, and followed with 23 free-throws made against Cameron on Dec. 17.

nd nationally. Her pace of 1.7 blocks per game ranks second in the LSC (26

THE SERIES AGAINST MSU
The Mustangs command the all-time series with a 21-11 series record over LCU, which included 11 consecutive wins until LCU winning the prior five meetings. Each school has conflicting all-time records for the history of the two programs, as there were some MSU forfeitures in the mix, which enters into the confusion. The Lady Chaps are 8-7 all-time in Lubbock against MSU. They have only met three times in Lubbock since 1994 (Dec. 3, 2015, which LCU won 92-71… Jan. 27, 2021, which LCU won 84-54… Feb. 3, 2022, which LCU won 75-64). Of the prior 32 all-time meetings, the two programs have only met six times since
Steve Gomez's tenure as head coach of the Lady Chaps (he is 5-1 against MSU).

PRIOR MEETING VS. MSU
LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2022) - Lubbock Christian University's NCAA Division II record-breaking home win streak in women's basketball hit a milestone, as the No.13 Lady Chaparrals defeated Midwestern State 75-64 in Lone Star Conference play to extend the win streak to 100 games inside Rip Griffin Center, which passed the NCAA Division I record of 99 held by UConn. Additional milestones and records were accomplished in the game, as
Laynee Burr set a Rip Griffin Center record in the contest by going 12-of-12 from the free-throw line and
Allie Schulte surpassed 1,500 career points.
LCU's march from 99 to 100 began in the opening quarter with
Channing Cunyus scoring the first four points and Burr draining a three-pointer for a 7-2 LCU run to start the game.
Grace Foster had six points in the first quarter and LCU led 15-14 through the opening quarter.
Frances King, who hit a trio of three-pointers in the game, gave MSU a 17-15 lead 53-seconds into the second quarter with a three-pointer. She had two in the second quarter, with both giving MSU a marginal lead. Her second came with 3:13 remaining in the half and LCU responded with a 12-2 run to close the half.
Whitney Cox and
Ashton Duncan each had five points in the run, as the surge gave LCU a 38-30 lead at the break.
The 12-2 run would turn into a 20-5 run 3:23 into the second half, as Burr had five points of an 8-3 scoring run to open the second half. Each team was 6-of-13 from the field, but LCU outscored MSU 8-1 from the line and had a 21-15 scoring advantage in the period. Burr (6) and Duncan (5) combined for 11 points in the quarter.

LCU's last nine points were from the free-throw line, as LCU did not have a field goal after Stovall's three-pointer (LCU missed their final five field goal attempts).
LCU went 87.1% from the free-throw line, making 27 of their 31 attempts from the stripe. The 27 points from the line is their second-highest total on the season (30 on Nov. 19, 2021 vs. Lander). Burr was 12-of-12 and the 12 made free-throws is the most by a Lady Chaps since Nicole Hampton had 12 on Feb. 11, 2016 (against Arkansas Fort Smith).
