Game 1 vs. Nebraska Kearney

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
With two outs in the sixth inning, and LCU leading 3-0, the game was in reach for UNK until Caroline Chilton's fly ball to centerfield was dropped, which led to LCU scoring a trio of runs with two outs for a 6-0 advantage.

How it Happened:
Angela Donaldson opened the scoring for LCU in the second inning. She placed a bunt between the pitcher and catcher, which allowed Riley Lunsford to score off the infield single. LCU made it 3-0 in the third inning with Savanah Wysocki scoring on a throwing error and Tyla Lee producing a two-out single.

The score remained 3-0 until an error on UNK centerfielder Bri Healy with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed London Willis to score and it prolonged the inning. Kamryn Gibbs had a bloop to right-centerfield for an RBI before Berkeley Quinn and Gibbs pulled off a double steal, which led to Quinn scoring for the final run of the game.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco, improving to 3-0 on the season and 38-19 in her career, allowed two hits and struck out four batters. She forced the Lopers into 12 groundouts. By winning her 38th career game, she matches Marisa Gonzalez for the third-most career wins in LCU program history.
  • Tyla Lee was 2-for-2 with runners on base, as LCU was 4-for-12 in the category.
  • LCU was 8-of-15 (.533) with runners in scoring position. They were 9-for-18 (.500) with runners on base.
  • LCU improved to 3-0 all-time against the Lopers and all three meetings have been in Lubbock.

Game 2 vs. Chadron State

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
LCU led 3-1, with the game in reach heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, and Brooke Makemson led off with a solo home run into the teeth of a 25mph wind straight into home, which just got over the centerfield fence. The homer sparked the Lady Chaps, who added two more runs in the sixth inning.

How it Happened:
Tyla Lee led off the second inning with a triple and scored on Skylar Herrera's infield single. Herrera advanced to second on an error on the play, and then advanced to third base with a stolen base. That set up an RBI-single through the left side by Angela Donaldson for a 2-0 lead. LCU made it 3-0 in the third inning with Makemson stealing third base and then scoring on a wild pitch.

Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Makemson led off the inning with her first home run of the season, which matched the run they gave up in the top half of the inning. With Donaldson and Wysocki each reaching base in the sixth inning, Makemson drove them home with a two-run single for a 6-1 advantage.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Maxine Valdez improved to 2-1 with the victory, as she allowed two hits and struck out six batters. She did not allow a hit for the opening 3.1 innings, as the hit came on the 12th batter she faced in the game.
  • LCU had two triples in the game, as Savannah Wysocki and Tyla Lee each tripled. Lee's triple was her second of her LCU career (first of the season), while Wysocki's triple was her third of the season and 18th of her LCU career, which actively leads NCAA Division II career marks.
  • The Lady Chaps were 4-for-6 getting the leadoff batter aboard, with Makemson 2-for-2 in the category.
  • Going 2-for-3, Donaldson finished the day 3-for-5 and produced a team-leading .667 on-base percentage for the day.
  • LCU improved to 5-0 all-time against the Eagles (4-0 in Lubbock).
