Win Streak Hits 100, Allie Schulte Hits 1,500 and Laynee Burr Hits Free Throws

Milestones and Rip Griffin Center Records Took Place, as LCU Tops Mustangs in LSC Play

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2022) – Lubbock Christian University's NCAA Division II record-breaking home win streak in women's basketball hit a milestone Thursday night, as the No.13 Lady Chaparrals defeated Midwestern State 75-64 in Lone Star Conference play to extend the win streak to 100 games inside Rip Griffin Center, which passes the NCAA Division I record of 99 held by UConn. Additional milestones and records were accomplished in the game, as Laynee Burr set a Rip Griffin Center record in the contest by going 12-of-12 from the free-throw line and Allie Schulte surpassed 1,500 career points.

Since Jan. 1, 2015, LCU has won 100 consecutive home games. Included in the mix is a 10-0 mark in postseason games (7-0 in NCAA postseason games) and a 79-0 record in conference games (49-0 in Heartland Conference games). No NCAA Division I women's basketball program has reached 100 consecutive home wins (UConn won 99 from 2006/07 – 2011/12) and LCU becomes the first Division II program to reach triple figures. NCAA Division III Amherst has the NCAA women's basketball record at 121 (Jan. 31, 2009 – Feb. 6-2016).

LCU's march from 99 to 100 began in the opening quarter with Channing Cunyus scoring the first four points and Burr draining a three-pointer for a 7-2 LCU run to start the game. Grace Foster had six points in the first quarter and LCU led 15-14 through the opening quarter.

Frances King, who hit a trio of three-pointers in the game, gave MSU a 17-15 lead 53-seconds into the second quarter with a three-pointer. She had two in the second quarter, with both giving MSU a marginal lead. Her second came with 3:13 remaining in the half and LCU responded with a 12-2 run to close the half. Whitney Cox and Ashton Duncan each had five points in the run, as the surge gave LCU a 38-30 lead at the break.

The 12-2 run would turn into a 20-5 run 3:23 into the second half, as Burr had five points of an 8-3 scoring run to open the second half. Each team was 6-of-13 from the field, but LCU outscored MSU 8-1 from the line and had a 21-15 scoring advantage in the period. Burr (6) and Duncan (5) combined for 11 points in the quarter.

Free-throws trended in the fourth quarter, as the teams combined for 21 free-throw attempts. LCU was 11-of-12 from the line in the quarter, with Burr making all four of her attempts. Shaylee Stovall connected on a three-pointer three-minutes into the quarter and put LCU's lead at 16 points (66-50), which was the game's largest. A 10-2 MSU run allowed the Mustangs to cut the deficit into single digits (68-60), but LCU was able to preserve the win from the line with seven points coming from the line. LCU's last nine points were from the free-throw line, as LCU did not have a field goal after Stovall's three-pointer (LCU missed their final five field goal attempts).

LCU went 87.1% from the free-throw line, making 27 of their 31 attempts from the stripe. The 27 points from the line is their second-highest total on the season (30 on Nov. 19, 2021 vs. Lander). Burr was 12-of-12 and the 12 made free-throws is the most by a Lady Chaps since Nicole Hampton had 12 on Feb. 11, 2016 (against Arkansas Fort Smith). Hampton owns the overall program record, going 14-of-14 from the line on Jan. 16, 2014.

Burr finished with 17 points and was one of four Lady Chaps to finish in double figures. Duncan, who was 6-of-6 from the line, finished with 14 points and Allie Schulte and Foster each had 10 points. Juliana Robertson led LCU with 12 rebounds. LCU (19-4, 8-3) forced 18 turnovers, while committing eight.

The Lady Chaps were outshot from the field, as MSU was 51.1% (24/47) from the field in the losing effort. Morgan Lenahan led the Mustangs with 16 points and King finished with 15 points. MSU dropped to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in LSC play.

The victory was the fifth consecutive win in the all-time series, which MSU leads 21-11. LCU improved to 8-7 all-time against the Mustangs in Lubbock.

TURNING POINT
With the game tied 17-17, LCU forced a turnover, leading to a bucket by Allie Schulte with 7:12 remaining in the second quarter. From Schulte's bucket until Burr's opening layup of the second half (14 seconds into the second half), LCU was 8-of-10 (80%) from the field, which helped LCU lead 40-30.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Allie Schulte recorded her 1,000th career point the last time LCU faced Midwestern State (Jan. 27, 2021). Thursday's milestone marks her as the first Lady Chap to reach 1,500 career points since Tess Bruffey hit the mark and eventually finished with 1,728 points from 2014-2018. Shulte is one of 32 active NCAA Division II players with at least 1,500 career points.

WHAT'S NEXT
LCU remains home and closes out a three-game homestand Saturday at 2 p.m. hosting Texas Woman's, who enters with a 6-1 road record.
