Game 1

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
In the top of the seventh and LCU leading 6-3, TAMUC's Leo Terry laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the throw to first was the first of two LCU errors on the play, as two runs scored and Terry, the tying run, ended up at third base.

How it Happened:
LCU had four errors in the game, and the first came in the top of the first inning, as a leadoff walk to Alina Jasso was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Terry, resulting in her reaching on a fielding error. That set up a three-run home run by Madison Schaefer, who hit it off the scoreboard for a 3-0 lead.

LCU came back with a Savannah Wysocki sacrifice fly for a run in the third inning, and back-to-back doubles off the centerfield fence by Brooke Makemson and Tyla Lee to cut the defeicit to 3-2. The Lady Chaps took the lead in the fifth inning, as Kasey Flores, facing a 3-2 pitch with two outs, launched a grand slam over the scoreboard for a 6-3 lead.

LCU starting pitcher Taylor Franco faced 12 consecutive batters without allowing a hit, but the streak ended in the top of the seventh inning, as Mackenzie Dugi led off with a double. Franco was replaced in the circle by Maxine Valdez, who was unable to garner the save. She walked the first batter she faced, setting up Terry's sacrifice bunt resulting in a pair of errors and a pair of runs scoring. Alyssa LeBlanc tied the game with a single before Avery Boley (two run) and Sabrina Anguiano (solo) each homered to cap a six-run inning for a 9-6 lead.

Tiarra Delrosario led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single, but two batters later, Lee hit a ground ball (was going to make it through the right side) off of Delrosario resulting in an automatic out. TAMUC went to the bullpen and brown in LeBlanc into the circle to face Flores, who she struck out to register the save.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco had her third game of at least 10 strikeouts in her career and the 10 strikeouts were a season high.
  • Kasey Flores's grand slam was her team-leading ninth homer of the season (first slam and the team's second slam) and her 32nd career home run. She is 20th in active career home leaders in NCAA Division II.
  • Tyla Lee had a 2-for-4 performance for her team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season.
  • LCU fell to 11-2 on the season when leading after six innings.

Game 2

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
A dropped fly ball in right field with two outs prolonged the top of the fourth inning of a 3-3 game and the error was followed by a two-run home run by Uxua Modrego for a 5-3 Lions lead.

How it Happened:
The Lady Lions got off to another 3-0 lead. LeBlanc, who started in the circle, helped her own cause with a two-run home run in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. The Lions made it 3-0 in the top of the third inning with a solo leadoff home run by Samantha Dutton.

LCU stormed back as they did in the opener. Kamryn Gibbs hit a solo shot to leadoff the bottom of the third inning. A series of passed balls followed after Savannah Wysocki and Tiarra Delrosario each reached base and the passed balls and a ground-out-RBI by Tyla Lee combined to help LCU tie the game 3-3.

In the top of the fourth inning, LCU recorded two quick outs, but then an error in right field was followed by Modrego's two run home run to regain the Lions lead. They made it 6-3 in the fifth inning, with LeBlanc hitting her second home run of the game.

LCU stranded a pair in the sixth inning and opened the bottom of the seventh inning with two quick outs before Delrosario singled and Brooke Makemson walked to bring up Lee representing the tying run. LeBlanc completed the win and complete game by forcing Lee into grounding out.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Maxine Valdez replaced Mattye Tyler (5-1) in relief and Valdez pitched 2.1 innings if hitless relief and struck out four batters.
  • LCU had been 19-0 when hitting at least one home run in a game, but they are now 19-2 after dropping Friday's pair of games.
  • The home run by Kamryn Gibbs was her fifth of the season and she has seven in her LCU career.
  • The last time LCU allowed four home runs in the same game was Feb. 19, 2015 against Midwestern State (neutral site game in Mansfield, Texas). The last time LCU allowed four home runs in the same game at home was nearly 10 years to the date (Mar. 29, 2012) against Oklahoma City, who had hit five in the game and nine in the doubleheader.
  • LCU fell to 4-4 this season against nationally ranked foes (1-3 at home).
  • Tiarra Delrosario extended her streak of reaching base safely to 24 games, which actively leads LCU and is the longest by a Lady Chap this season. She also actively leads LCU with a four-game hit streak (she earlier had a 17-game hit streak this season, which is the longest by a Lady Chap this season).

HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU dropped to 1-4 all-time against TAMUC and the Lions were making their first-ever trip to Lubbock.

WHAT'S NEXT:
LCU remains home Sunday to host No.1 UT Tyler for a LSC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park.
