LUBBOCK, Texas (March 27, 2022) – For the first time in program history, Lubbock Christian University no-hit a nationally ranked program, as No.10 LCU received a seven-inning complete game no-hitter from
Taylor Franco to defeat No.1 University of Texas at Tyler 3-0 in the opening game of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader. UT Tyler bounced back to top the Lady Chaparrals 6-2 in the second game to split the doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

After a walk and back-to-back sacrifice bunts, UTT had a pair of runners in scoring position with one out of a scoreless game in the top of the fourth inning.
Taylor Franco struck out Avery Farr and forced Hanna Fradkin into grounding out to escape out of the inning without allowing a run.
How it Happened:
Heading to the bottom of the fourth inning scoreless, after escaping a jam in the top half of the inning, LCU's
Brooke Makemson led off the frame hitting the first pitch over the scoreboard in left for a solo home run and a 1-0 lead.
Tyla Lee followed with a single and she scored on a two-run home run by
Skylar Herrera over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead.
The Patriots had a runner reach via a walk in the sixth inning (with one out), but Franco received groundouts to the final five batters faced to register her fourth no-hitter of the season.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco complete game no-hit shutout marked her 43rd career complete game (ninth of the season) and she claimed her program-record 21st career shutout (seventh of the season). Franco's 21 career shutouts is eighth among active NCAA Division II pitchers.
- Franco improved to 14-1 on the season with the win (co-leads the LSC).
- Brooke Makemson homered for the seventh time this season and the 17th time of her LCU career.
- Skylar Herrera's home run was her 8th home run of the season and the 20th of her LCU career.
- Tiarra Delrosario had her streak of reaching base safely end at 24 games, which is the highest by a Lady Chaps member this season.
- LCU's win over a No.1 ranked team was their first since Mar. 24, 2015 when they defeated No.1 West Texas A&M 4-3 at home.
- UTT was no-hit for the first time since Mar. 6, 2020 at Tarleton State.
No-Hitter Notes:
- Taylor Franco no-hitter was the fifth of her career (LCU's all-time career leader in no-hitters).
- The no-hitter was the 22nd in LCU history.

Turning Point:
With the score tied and two outs, as the bases were loaded in the top of the sixth inning, a wild pitch combined with an error led to two runs scoring, which provided UTT a 4-2 lead.
How it Happened:
The Patriots stuck first in the top of the fourth inning, with Mak Dominguez singling in a run for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Chaps ended the frame with a double play, as UTT, with two on base and one out, was unable to add to the lead. LCU tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, as
Savannah Wysocki took advantage of a pair of walks in the inning with a RBI-single to tie the game.
Brooke Makemson hit the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth inning out of the park for a solo home run and a 2-1 LCU lead. Dominguez tied the game for UTT in the top of the sixth inning, with her second RBI base hit of the game. She was followed by the bases-loaded wild pitch and error that gave the Patriots a 4-2 lead.
The Patriots extended the lead in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run home run from Tatum Goff.
Inside the Numbers:
- Maxine Valdez suffered the loss (7-2), as she went 5.0 innings and allowed three hits and an unearned run.
- Brooke Makemson homered for the eighth time this season and the 18th time of her LCU career. The home run helped extend her hit streak to four games, which actively leads LCU.
- The split of games places LCU with a 5-5 record this season against nationally ranked opponents.
- UTT was 5-for-7 getting the leadoff batter aboard.
- The teams combined 1-for-14 in two-out at-bats. LCU was 1-for-8 in the category, with Savannah Wysocki supplying the lone hit.
- Wysocki was 3-for-4 in the game and 5-for-7 on the day, which has her 11-for-16 (.688) in her career against UTT.
HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU and UTT are now 2-2 all-time against each other. The meetings were UTT's first in Lubbock.
