Turning Point:
In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Kasey Flores capped a three-run inning with a two-out RBI-single to tie the game and force extra innings.
How it Happened:
Oklahoma Christian opened the scoring in the first inning with a four-run frame. Five single, all Baltimore chops, sparked the first inning scoring surge. The Lady Chaps tried to respond, receiving a double down the left field line by
Brooke Makemson, but the Lady Chaps would strand a pair in scoring position to close out the first inning.
The Lady Chaps would get some results in the second inning.
Savannah Wysocki hit a bases-loaded double to the right-centerfield fence to cut the deficit in half, before
Tyla Lee's bases-loaded single to left field made it a one-run game (4-3).
OC was able to get all three runs back in the top of the fourth inning with four hits, and added a run off a sacrifice fly for an 8-3 lead. They added an additional run in the fifth inning before LCU attempted a rally. In the home half of the fifth inning,
Kasey Flores and
Angela Donaldson followed a walk to
Skylar Herrera with singles.
Athena Muniz and
Caroline Chilton were each able to plate a run before Wysocki's second double of the game cut the deficit to 9-6.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, LCU received a pair of single and a hit-by-pitch to lead the bases, but a pair of strikeouts kept any runs from crossing the plate. The bottom of the seventh inning had a different outcome. Down to their last strike and no one on base,
Tiarra Delrosario reached on an infield single.
Brooke Makemson followed with a single and Lee was hit by a pitch for a second time in the game. Herrera drove in a pair with a single to centerfield and
Kasey Flores tied the game with a bloop-single.
Delrosario would be up again in the eighth inning with two outs, but this time
Athena Muniz represented the winning run at third base. She hit a chopper and was called out on a bang-bang call at first base to force a ninth inning.
LCU had runners on base in each of the extra-inning innings, but was unable to get the clutch hit needed. OC'S Hannah Pate gave OC the lead in the 13
th inning with a two-out bloop for a 10-9 lead. LCU received a leadoff single from
Caroline Chilton, but she would be stranded in scoring position.
