Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (September 16, 2022) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals dropped their first dual match of the season, falling 4-3 to Metropolitan State of Denver Friday afternoon at Pueblo Duals played at Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
The Chaps grabbed the first point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Kelly Giese and
Braden Tipton won their match 6-4 and
Alex Donnelly and
Matthijs Mallee won theirs 7-5 for the team point. LCU claimed victories in the No.1 and No.6 singles match.
Martins Abamu and
Sabri Laphitz each won convincingly. The pivotal match was the No.2 singles match, as Giese dropped the first set and forced the match tie breaker after a 7-5 win in the second set. Both Giese and his competitor, Juho Kantola, went into double figures in the match tie-breaker, but Giese would fall 13-11.

"This match, we came out on fire in doubles on all three courts. Metro State battled back but Alex Donnelly and Matthijs Mallee came up big to secure the point. Martins Abamu led the way for us in singles and Kelly Giese played a great second set and tiebreaker but came up just short. I am very encouraged by the results, effort and energy today. We grew a ton today even in the loss, and I am confident that we will close out these matches in the future"
