LCU Opens Road Trip With Division-I-Transfer Stocked Dallas Baptist

DALLAS, Texas (September 23, 2022) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals have their first taste of Lone Star Conference road action this week, as their opening weekend of conference road matches has the Lady Chaps making stops at Dallas Baptist University (Friday) and UT Tyler (Saturday).

LOOKING AT DBU
- The Lady Chaps hold a staggering 38-4 all-time record against the Patriots. LCU opened the all-time series winning the first 23 meetings dating back to 1983. DBU won final meeting of the 2017 season to mark their latest win in the series, as LCU has won six straight meetings since then (including a 3-1 win on Oct. 15 in Dallas and a 3-0 win at the LSC Championships on Nov. 18 last season). LCU is 16-3 all-time against DBU in Dallas (LCU has won the prior three meetings inside Burg Center).

- DBU was preseason picked fifth in the Lone Star Conference, with three first-place vote received. They went 14-8 last season, with a 10-7 mark in conference play. This season, DBU is 10-3 overall and they 1-1-1 in LSC play, which has them in a seven-way tie for sixth place (LCU among the mix).

- The Patriots feature six Division I transfers on their roster, which does not include Delaney Fuller, who started every match last season for LSC champion Angelo State.

- DBU generates points from the serving line, as they have a conference leading 113 aces (18th nationally) with a pace of 2.46 per set (12th nationally). Fuller (.51), Sadie Washburn (.47) and Kenzie McNeil (.46) are the top three leaders in the LSC aces per set. McNeil leads the team with 21, ranking second in the LSC.

- Baylor transfer AJ Koele is second in the LSC (14th nationally) with 199 kills on the season. Koele, who had 22 kills on Aug. 26 against Harding, also ranks 14th nationally and second in the conference with 4.42 kills per set.
 
LOOKING AT UTT
- The Lady Chaps and UT Tyler opened their all-time series during the 2019 season in Tyler, Texas, where the Patriots topped LCU 3-1 on Oct. 4, 2019. Their previous meeting (Sept. 8) marked their first ever neutral site contest and UTT garnered a 3-1 win to take 3-0 all-time series lead (all meetings have resulted in 3-1 scores).

- UTT was preseason picked third in the Lone Star Conference, with seven first-place votes received. They went 20-4 last season, with a 15-3 record in conference play. They qualified for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional last season. This season, they are 8-5 overall and are one of the seven programs tied for sixth in the LSC standings with a 1-1 conference start.

- The Patriots rank second in the LSC in assists per set with 12.3 per set (36th nationally). Adeline Ortman, who ranks ranks eighth in the LSC in aces per set (0.4), ranks fifth in the LSC in assists per set (8.65).

- Mikayla Ware is the go-to target for the Patriots this season. Ware ranks second nationally with a conference-leading 12.9 attacks per set. She is seventh nationally with a conference-best 4.64 kills per set and 209 kills (10th nationally), and is ninth nationally (leads the LSC) in points per set (5.13).

- After playing 13 matches on the road, UT Tyler plays their first home match of the season Friday hosting Eastern New Mexico before facing LCU Saturday. They went 8-0 at home last season and have won 14 consecutive conference home matches (8 consecutive overall).
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 5-8 on the season (1-1 in conference and tied for sixth) and coming off a 3-0 win Saturday over Oklahoma Christian at home for their first LSC win of the season. They are 0-2 in road matched this season. Kiana Fallaha leads LCU in kills on the road with 13 on the season. Payton Murray is averaging 4.0 kills per set on the road. Kalli Dalland has five blocks and has a pace of .71 per set in LCU's two road matches.
 
- Lubbock Christian, 0-6 when losing the opening set of matches this season, is 5-0 when they win the third set and 0-8 when they lose the set.

- Sage Chain heads into Friday's match as the Lady Chaps team leader in kills (110), with Lily Bickley leads LCU in kills per set (2.62) and Chain Sage is their leader in points per set (3.18).   

- Setter Kayton Genenbacher has three double-doubles on the season (leads LCU). On the season, she is averaging 10.15 assists per set (third in the LSC and 30th nationally), .33 aces per set and 2.13 digs per set. The sophomore is third in the LSC in total assists (487), which is 20th nationally.
 
- Sophomore Libero Kendall Mahaney had 21 digs Friday against UAFS to reach 20 or more digs for a sixth time this season. Mahaney leads the team with 226 digs (seventh in the LSC and 45th nationally) and is at a pace of 4.7 per set (sixth in the LSC and 52nd nationally).                                                     
 
- LCU points leader Sage Chain also leads LCU ranking eighth in the LSC with a pace of 1.10 blocks per set (53 total on the season, ranking fourth in the LSC). She has at least seven blocks in a match four times this season, with a high of 8.0 on Sept. 3 vs. UCCS.
 
-Kalli Dalland had a career night Friday against UAFS, as she posted career-high marks in kills (13) and blocks (9). Her nine blocks matched the third-highest single-match total by a Lady Chap since 2008 (tied for the highest for a five-set match over the same span for LCU). The block total is LCU's highest since Sage Chain had nine on Oct. 23, 2021. Dalland is second in LSC play in blocks per set with 1.57 in two LSC matches.
 
-Aaliyah Gray is LCU's active career leader against DBU, averaging 2.71 kills per set and 3.14 points per set. Sage Chain has the most career kills (29) and blocks (7) against DBU in three career meetings (Kaitlyn Mayo leads in blocks per set with .86). Chloe Menard averages 0.43 aces served per set against DBU and has three through two matches played. Kendall Mahaney averages 3.7 digs per set (26 total in two matches) against DBU.
 
- Active career numbers against UT Tyler has Kiana Fallaha leading LCU with 3.0 points per set after an 11-kill performance against UT Tyler on September 8. She averaged 2.75 kills per set. Aaliyah Gray has 14 kills in two career meetings. Kendall Mahaney has four aces in two matches (0.5 per set) and averages 5.1 digs per set (has 41 total against UTT).  Sage Chain leads LCU with 10 blocks (1.11 per set) in three career matches against UTT. Chain and Mady McCully are the only Lady Chaps to have played in all three of the all-time meetings against UTT.
