Road Win Streak Takes a Dent in Denton, as LCU Swept at TWU

Lady Chaps Four-Match Win Streak Comes To a Close

DENTON, Texas (October 11, 2023) --The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals could not overcome a dynamic Pioneers offense Wednesday on the road, losing to Texas Woman's in straight sets (22-25, 18-25, 13-25) in Lone Star Conference action inside Kitty Magee Arena.

The loss dropped Lubbock Christian's record to 12-6 overall and 4-4 in LSC action. LCU's three-match overall win streak and four-match road win streak each came to a close with the straight-set loss.

Kiana Fallaha finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Lady Chaps offense, while finishing with a hitting percentage of .290.

Game Notes

» Despite the loss, LCU hit .262 in the match, which was their fourth-best hitting mark of the season. They matched a season-low (season best) with eight attack errors.

» Kiana Fallaha had a team-high 11 kills for Lubbock Christian. Her 14th double-digit kill performance of the season. She had 31 attacks, which ended a streak of five consecutive matches with at least 40 attacks,

» Lubbock Christian received a team-high five digs from Olivia Elofsson.

» Kalli Dalland had a solid outing with eight kills and a pair of blocks with a .400 attack percentage.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a team-high 23 assists from Kayton Genenbacher.

»  LCU's struggles were on the defensive side. They allowed 11 aces, which was the the most allowed in a three-set match since they allowed 12 in three sets on Oct. 22, 2010 against St. Gregory's. LCU also had a season low in digs with 23, which is their fewest in the program's history of the rally scoring era. The Lady Chaps also had a season-low 2.0 blocks, which matched last season's season-low (Aug. 25, 2022 at Alaska Anchorage).

» LCU fell to 5-2 on the road.

» The loss marked LCU's second straight-set loss of the season and both have come against Texas Woman's, as TWU swept LCU in the regular season (prior meeting was a non-conference meeting).

» TWU's regular season sweep of LCU has TWU with a 7-5 all-time series advantage over the Lady Chaps. It was LCU's first-ever loss in Denton, where LCU is now 2-1 all-time against TWU.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Chaps found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-22. Texas Woman's grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Pioneers took over in the second half of the stanza. LCU led 18-15, but TWU closed the set with a 10-4 scoring advantage. Kiana Fallaha paced LCU with six kills, while TWU received a whopping nine kills from Kaia Saylor.

SET 2 | Lubbock Christian then dropped the second set 25-18 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Lady Chaps dropped set two despite a strong performance on the attacking side. Lubbock Christian put together a .409 attack percentage with 10 kills in the set loss. Kalli Dalland spearheaded the number with six kills on seven attacks. Saylor had another big frame for TWU, posting seven kills. She finished with 20 to lead TWU in the match.

SET 3 | Texas Woman's finished off the sweep with a third-set victory. The Lady Chaps fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 25-13. Tori Woods served three of TWU's six aces in the set. Fallaha closed out the final set with a trio of kills to lead LCU.

What's Next

LCU returns home Friday and hosts Angelo State at 6 p.m. for a LSC clash inside Rip Griffin Center. The previous five meetings against ASU have been in San Angelo, Texas, as ASU will make their first trip to Lubbock since Feb. 10, 2021.
