Block Hole Sun ... Lady Chaps Tops UTPB in Block-Filled Contest

Lady Chaps and UTPB Combine for 23.0 Blocks, as LCU Makes LSC Standings Jump With Win

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 14, 2023) -- While the moon was blocking the sun outside Rip Griffin Center, Lubbock Christian University and University of Texas of the Permian Basin were combining for 23.0 blocks in "The Rip," as the Lady Chaps used 10 blocks from Kalli Dalland and 16 kills from Lacie Schooley to fight back from an opening-set loss and claim a 3-1 win (13-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10) Saturday in Lone Star Conference play.

The victory ended a three-match home losing streak and boosted the Lady Chaps' record to 13-7 overall and 5-5 in LSC play.

The Lady Chaps received a pair of double-doubles in the contest, as Kiana Fallaha registered 14 kills and 12 digs and setter Kayton Genenbacher had 45 assists and 16 digs. A pair of career-high performances were produced on both ends of the statistical spectrum, as Lacie Schooley led the Lady Chaps with 16 kills and Kalli Dalland had 10.0 blocks. LCU had 12 of the combined 23 blocks in the match.

Game Notes

» Lubbock Christian had three players in double figures in kills, led by the career-high 16 by Schooley, who posted her fourth double-digit outing in kills (this season). She was followed by Fallaha (14) and Payton Murray (12) to lead the LCU attack.

» Lubbock Christian had four players in double figures in digs, with a team-leading 16 from Genenbacher. Ramsey Clark (13), Chloe Menard (13), and Fallaha (12) joined Genenbacher in double figures in the category.

» UTPB only allowed two LCU aces, but both were by Genenbacher, who now co-leads the LSC in aces (34), with an LSC-best 17 in conference play. Genenbacher served a season-high 34 serves Saturday, with 18 in the fourth set.

» Kalli Dalland had a match-high and career-high 10 blocks. The mark is the highest total in the rally scoring era by a Lady Chaps member at home and matches as the highest single-match total since 2008 by a Lady Chap (Dalland is the third Lady Chaps member to complete the task). The 10 blocks are the most by a Lady Chaps member since Christiana Tavo had 10 in Wichita, Kan. against Tarleton State on Sept. 24, 2015. Dalland had nine block-assists to match the most by a Lady Chap this season, as Lily Bickley had nine against UT Tyler Sept. 30 at home (the last time that had been completed prior to the two this season was Sept. 16, 2017).

» LCU recorded 12 blocks, which is the second-most this season overall and in a four-set match. LCU recorded 14 against UTT on Sept. 30. LCU had six blocks in the fourth set.

» Kiana Fallaha registered a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season and her career. She has double-double performances in six of her last 11 matches.

» Lubbock Christian never trailed on the way to winning the third set 25-18.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a match-high 45 assists from Kayton Genenbacher, who completed her 11th double-double of the season and 22nd of her career, as she also led the team in digs (16). She has double-doubles in six of the last eight matches.

» LCU moved to 5-5 at home with the win.

» Lubbock Christian improved to 5-4 in matches decided in four sets this season and also moved to 5-4 in matches in which they lose the opening set and 8-1 in matches in which they win the fourth set.

» The win for LCU placed their all-time record at 42-10 all-time against UTPB and they are 18-6 all-time against UTPB at home. The meeting was the second of the season and both were in Lubbock. The prior meeting was won by UTPB (3-2 on Sept. 14) in an LSC Crossover match, which did not count against the conference record.
