Javelinas Top Lady Chaps In Straight Sets

LCU Falls in Straight Sets For Third Time This Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 20, 2023) --The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals fell to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 18-25) Friday in Lone Star Conference play inside Rip Griffin Center.

The loss dropped Lubbock Christian's record to 13-8 overall and 5-6 in LSC action.

Lily Bickley finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Lady Chaps attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .421. The Lady Chaps received 9 digs from Olivia Elofsson and three blocks from Kalli Dalland to lead them defensively. TAMUK won behind a combined 23 kills from Ayanna Jackson (13) and Jackie Alanis (10).

Game Notes

» Kiana Fallaha had a career-high three aces in the loss. As a team, LCU had six aces and a pair were from Kayton Genenbacher, who has 36 on the season and entered the day co-leading the LSC.

» Lily Bickley had a team-high 10 kills for Lubbock Christian. It marked her 11th match with at least 10 kills this season.

» Lubbock Christian got a team-high nine digs from Olivia Elofsson. LCU finished with 31 digs for their second-lowest total of the season.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a match-high 29 assists from Kayton Genenbacher.

» Fridays have not been kind to the Lady Chaps, as they fall to 5-5 on matches played on Fridays (they are 7-1 on Saturdays).

» LCU moved to 5-6 at home on the season.

» The loss was LCU's third straight-set loss of the season and they are 4-3 in matches decided in three sets.

» TAMUK has won two consecutive meetings against LCU and now has a 6-5 advantage in the all-time series. The win was TAMUK's first-ever win in Lubbock (1-3).

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Chaps found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-19, as TAMUK opened the match with a 6-0 lead. Lubbock Christian trailed by as many as seven points as Texas A&M-Kingsville never gave up the lead, as LCU twice moved within two-points of the Javelinas in the set. The Javelinas had a 14-8 advantage in kills and a 7-1 advantage in blocks in the frame. Jackson had three kills and six blocks in the set for TAMUK.

SET 2 | Lubbock Christian then dropped set two 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Lady Chaps lost set two in spite of a strong performance on the attacking end. Lubbock Christian registered a .371 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss. The tightly played set was tied 15 times, with the 15th time coming as LCU had a 22-21 lead slip away, as TAMUK utilized the eighth lead change of the set with a 4-0 run to claim the set. Jackson had another huge set for TAMUK with eight kills (TAMUK had 19 kills in the set). Kiana Fallaha and Bickley each had four kills in the set to co-lead LCU.

SET 3 | Lubbock Christian could not win the third set and was swept by Texas A&M-Kingsville, as the Javelinas won the final set 25-18. Lubbock Christian trailed by as many as seven points as Texas A&M-Kingsville used an 8-4 scoring run (once tied 12-12) for a 20-16 lead and eventually closed the match on a 5-1 run. Bickley closed her night with five kills in the set.

What's Next

LCU closes out a four-match homestand Saturday hosting Texas A&M International at 2 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center, but fans are encouraged to show up at 1 p.m. for a free meal as part of another Johnsonville Tailgate.
