Only Four Sets Needed Saturday, as LCU Extends Road Win Streak To Four

Lily Bickley and Kalli Daland Have Career Highs in Kills, as LCU Tops St. Mary's On The Road

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 7, 2023) -- After claiming victories in five sets their prior two matches, Lubbock Christian University only needed four sets Saturday, as they claimed a 3-1 Lone Star Conference victory (25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19) over Saint Mary's inside Bill Greehey Arena.

The conference win improved Lubbock Christian's record to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in LSC play, as they have won four consecutive road matches, including three on their current four-match road trip.

The Lady Chaps offense was paced by career-high performances from Lily Bickley (17) and Kalli Dalland (14), who combined for 31 kills. They each had solid hitting numbers as well, as Bickley hit .471 and Dalland hit .393. The pair also combined for 10 blocks, as Dalland, a senior and native of Johnson City, Texas (located nearby north of San Antonio), produced six blocks to finish with a career high 18 points. LCU finished with 10 blocks (team high for a road match this season), and to add to the defensive numbers, LCU had four players reach double figures in digs (Chloe Menard led the way with 20 digs).

Game Notes

» Lubbock Christian had four players in double figures in digs, led by Menard, who reached 20 digs for a fourth time this season. Ramsey Clark (14), Olivia Elofsson (11) and Kiana Fallaha (11) also finished in double figures in digs. Fallaha, a native of San Antonio, was celebrating her birthday.

» Ramsey Clark had a team-high two aces in the win, as LCU had five aces and matched a season-low with one serving error.

» Lubbock Christian never trailed on the way to winning the first set 25-20.

» Lubbock Christian never trailed on the way to winning the third set 25-17.

» Lily Bickley had a match-high 17 kills for Lubbock Christian, which topped her prior career high of 16 from Aug. 27, 2021 against Alaska Fairbanks.

» LCU moved to 4-3 on the season in matches.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a match-high 46 assists from Kayton Genenbacher.

» The Lady Chaps are now 5-1 on the road this season and they have won four consecutive road matches for the first time since a five-match road win streak in 2021.

» The victory marked LCU's first against St. Mary's under head coach Keith Giboney (1-3). LCU is now 12-16 against StMU all-time and they are 5-3 all-time in San Antonio against the Rattlers.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Chaps took control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-20. Lubbock Christian led by five points at 5-0 before navigating through a Rattlers comeback, which tied the set at 12-12.  LCU produced 15 kills in the set and they claimed the set after closing the set on a 5-0 run. Bickley led LCU in the set with four kills.

SET 2 | Lubbock Christian then dropped set two 25-18, evening the match at a set apiece. Lubbock Christian trailed by as many as seven points as Saint Mary's grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up three times before the Rattlers closed the set on a 10-4 run. Dalland had a 4-kill set for the Lady Chaps.

SET 3 | Lubbock Christian put the second-set loss behind and grabbed a 2-1 match lead with a victory in the third set. The Lady Chaps led from the opening point on in the set to secure a 25-17 victory. Lubbock Christian opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 17-6 before finishing off the set. Lubbock Christian's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Saint Mary's attacks in the stanza. Dalland (5) and Bickley (4) combined for nine kills in the set.

SET 4 | Lubbock Christian kept the momentum going, closing out the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory. The Lady Chaps grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Lubbock Christian led by as many as eight points at 20-12 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way. Lubbock Christian got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Saint Mary's attacks in the frame and capitalized on 10 Saint Mary's attacking errors on the way to victory. Bickley had six kills and three blocks in the set.

LCU closes out their four-match road trip Wednesday in Denton, Texas facing Texas Woman's at 6 p.m. inside Kitty Magee Arena.
