Top-10 Series Between No.8 LCU and No.2 UT Tyler Closes Saturday

LCU Aims To Avoid Sweep in Conference Opening Series

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 18, 2023) – No.8 Lubbock Christian University looks to avoid a series sweep and also seeks their first win of the season against a nationally ranked opponent, as the Lady Chaparrals host No.2 UT Tyler to wrap up their first three-game Lone Star Conference series. First pitch is scheduled for noon Saturday at Maner Park (NEW START TIME IS 2 PM DUE TO WEATHER). The series three-game format (three games over consecutive days) marks LCU's first three-game series format since the 2019 season as members of the Heartland Conference.

LCU and UTT Series Snapshot
  • UTT holds a 6-3 all-time series advantage over the Lady Chaps, which began in 2021.
  • The two teams faced each other five times last season, with UTT winning three of the meetings. Three of the meetings were at the NCAA South Central Regional in Tyler, Texas, where LCU won the first meeting (5-1 on May 13, 2022), but UTT rebounding to defeat LCU 3-1 and 9-2 (May 14, 2022) in the bracket championship (ended LCU's season).
  • LCU and pitcher Taylor Franco no-hit the Patriots on Mar. 27 and claimed a 3-0 win before falling 6-2 in a doubleheader split at Maner Park in Lubbock during the 2022 regular season's doubleheader split.
  • Five of the nine all-time meetings have been in Tyler. LCU is 1-3 against UTT in Lubbock.
  • UTT received a one-hitter from Tatum Goff Friday against LCU to win the opener 1-0. The Patriots used an eight-run second inning to win the second game 12-4.
    • Tatum Goff's one-hitter improved her career record to 2-1 against LCU.
    • UTT's JT Smith is 5-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and four stolen bases in the series this season.
    • Riley Lunsford leads LCU in this season's series, as she is 2-for-4 with two doubles.
    • Kasey Flores has three RBI in the series for LCU.
    • UTT is 6-for-13 (.462) in the series with runners in scoring position, while lCU is 1-for-7 (.143).  
  • Taylor Franco is 2-2 with a 2.36 ERA and 25 strikeouts in six career appearances (35.2 innings) against UTT.
  • Kamryn Gibbs is 6-for-21 (.286) in her career (eight games) verses UTT.
  • Skyler Herrera is 9-for-27 (.333) in her career (nine games), which includes a home run and five RBI, against UTT.
