Jones has broken three records so far this season

LUBBOCK, Texas – Abigail Jones set two school records as the Lubbock Christian throwers competed at the Masked Rider Open at Texas Tech on Friday, Mar. 24.

For the second straight week, Jones broke her own record in the shot put, finishing sixth with a throw of 12.95 meters. That mark breaks the school record she set last weekend at the WT Spring Break Open of 12.37 meters by 0.58 meters. The toss is also the 14th best in all of Division-II. She also was the highest D-II finisher in the event, finishing above athletes from Angelo State, West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian, Oral Roberts, and Eastern New Mexico.

Jones finished second in the "B" flight of the discus with a toss of 38.61 meters. That mark beats the old record set by Skyler Dempsey at the 2022 Open last season by 0.30 meters, and is a new personal best for Jones by a full 0.50 meters. She was the highest finisher from a Division-II school in the event, finishing above competitors from West Texas A&M, Angelo State, and Eastern New Mexico.

The rest of the Lady Chaps also competed in the "B" flight of discus, recording top-10 finishes. Dempsey just missed a personal best, finishing fourth with a toss of 38.16 meters. Paityn Green finished eighth with a toss of 32.90 meters, while Jazmene Duran finished behind her in ninth with a throw of 21.26 meters, her first time competing in the event at LCU.

In the "A" flight of the discus, Bryce Spencer finished sixth with a toss of 53.10 meters. The senior finished above throwers from Abilene Christian and Barton College. That toss moves Spencer past Paxton Hair of Texas A&M-Kingsville with the third-best throw in Division-II in the event as of press time.

Garrett Dixon picked up a ninth-place finish in the "B" flight of discus with a toss of 41.83 meters. Dixon finished above two throwers from Texas Tech and one thrower from Abilene Christian.

The rest of the Lubbock Christian track & field squad will compete at the Masked Rider Open on Saturday, Mar. 25. Action begins at 1:00 PM.
