Grellhesl, Weider Earn Podium Finishes at LSC Championships

LCU Places Ninth at Meet

CANYON, Texas (May 9, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University finished ninth at the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex this weekend.
 
The Lady Chaps scored 40 team points and got a pair of podium finishes from Drew Grellhesl and Olivia Weider.
 
A large majority of LCU's points in the meet came in one event – the pole vault – where they scored 17 total points. Grellhesl led the way with a clearance of 3.33 meters, earning second place and eight points for the Lady Chaps. Elizabeth Walker took fourth with a mark of 2.86 meters and Mylie Dobson finished fifth with a mark of 2.69 meters.
 
Other field event points came from Esparanza Cruz in the javelin and Matilda Galvan in the triple jump. Cruz had a toss of 37.02 meters, which placed her seventh and added two points. And Galvan also placed seventh with a leap of 11.20 meters.
 
In the sprints, Joy Egwu and Elizabeth Florez both scored in the 400-meter. Egwu recorded a new personal best in the event finals and bettered her NCAA provisional mark with a time of 54.40. She placed sixth, and Florez came in right behind in seventh with a time of 54.92.
 
In the 800-meter, freshman Isabella Jaime ran a new personal best in the preliminaries with a time of 2:14.46, which was the fifth-best time recorded, but she finished eighth in the finals to score one point.
 
Weider scored nine points all on her own in the distance events, including her podium finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She took third in the event with a time of 11:12.20 and placed sixth in the 5000-meter with a time of 18:52.67. Kylie Knapp also scored points in the steeplechase, recording a new personal best with a time of 12:16.60.
 
LCU's final two points came in the 4X100 relay. Egwu, Kerrigan Huynh, Vida Mora and Anika Beukes matched the Lady Chap program record with a time of 46.74, placing seventh.
 
Athletes that have provisionally qualified for the national championship meet will find out if they have been invited this week. The meet will be held May 21-23 at Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.
