LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 29, 2023) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has selected Lubbock Christian University's
Kasey Flores as the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week in Division II.
LCU is riding a season-high 11-game win streak and
Kasey Flores is a big reason why, as she helped LCU to a 6-0 week with five home runs and 11 RBI on the week. The El Paso, Texas native produced at least one hit in each of the six games (three multi-hit games) and she had home runs in four of the games. In a road series at Western New Mexico, Flores had a two-home run game for a 4-RBI game, which was one of three games on the week in which she had at least three RBI. Flores' three multi-RBI games places her with 17 multi-RBI games on the season. In a three-game sweep of St. Edward's, she was 6-for-10 (.600) with six RBI. SEU entered the series allowing a low of three home runs on the season and Flores produced two home runs. Of her 10 hits on the week, six were with runners on base.
The honor marks the third time this season the NFCA has recognized a weekly national award to the Lady Chaps and the first time for a "Player of the Week."
Maxine Valdez and
Taylor Franco have each been recognized with pitching honors. Flores marks a third consecutive season in which a Lady Chaps member has received the Player of the Week honor. Last season,
Tyla Lee was recognized (Feb. 22, 2022), and
Brooke Makemson became LCU's first recipient of the national player of the week honor at the NCAA Division II level (Feb. 10, 2021).
