LUBBOCK, Texas (April 3, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University's men's and women's track & field programs competed in a pair of events this past weekend, and headlining LCU's weekend was the women's 4x400 relay team, which set a program record in the event at the 2023 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas in Austin.
The Lady Chaparrals relay team of
Jozlyn Arana,
Joy Egwu,
Kiley Cummings and
Anna Salisbury finished eighth in their event, but with a new school record time of 3:50.33. Cummings was part of the previous-best time of 3:53.99, which was recorded in last season's Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championship.
Egwu nearly matched her own personal record and school record in the 100 meter dash, as she ran a 12.09 in Austin. She set the program record last week at the Masked Rider Open with a 12.08.
The Lady Chaps also had representatives competing in San Marcos, Texas at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.
Madelyn Merrell had the lone notable result, setting a personal-record mark in the women's 800-meter run, where she finished second with a 2:16.42.
The men's program had representatives in Austin and San Marcos as well. In Austin, the men's 4x400 relay team notched a NCAA Division II provisional mark with a time of 3:13.49, as they finished sixth.
In San Marcos,
Bryce Spencer finished 15
th in the hammer, and despite throwing a 59.17 (below last week's 61.38 at the Masked Rider Open) it notched a NCAA Division II provisional mark. London Bowers completed a notable performance in Austin in the 110 hurdles, as his time of 15.13 was a personal record.
LCU's programs will compete this weekend at the Jo Meaker Classic in Canyon, Texas. West Texas A&M is the event host.
