Lady Chaps Renew Rivalry with Wayland Baptist Saturday Night

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team renews rivalry with Wayland Baptist on Saturday night.

LAST TIME OUT
  • LCU is coming off a 1-1 draw against MSU Denver.
  • The Lady Chaps were held scoreless until Lexi De La Cruz scored the equalizer with just three seconds left in the game.

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • The Lady Chaps are off to a 2-1-2 and are looking to get back to their winning ways.
  • LCU is averaging 1.80 goals a game with an average of 12.8 shots per game.
  • The Lady Chaps have an impressive .516 shots on goal percentage.
  • Junior Lexi De La Cruz was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 12) and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week.
 
HOMETOWN HERO
  • Lubbock native Lexi De La Cruz enters the game as the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week.
  • Lexi has either scored or assisted every Lady Chap goal scored this season.
  • She enters Saturday's game with four goals and five assists.
  • She ranks first in the Lone Star Conference in assists and shots on goal, and Lexi is ranked second in goals scored.
  • She also ranks in the top-10 in shots and points.
 
RA RA RASMUSSEN
  • Sophomore Graycen Rasmussen has the second most points on the team with four.
  • She had her first career multi goal game against New Mexico Highlands last Saturday.
  • She ranks top-10 in the LSC in shots, goals, and shots on goal.
 
FLASHY FRESHMEN
  • Nine Freshmen have seen action for the Lady Chaps in 2023. This includes Kara Murray, who has started in goal every game for LCU. Murray has made 21 saves and has a save percentage of .750.
  • Emily Douglas and Emma Best have also been normal starters for LCU. Douglas scored her first career goal against Regis on Sept. 6. Best added an assist in that match.
  • Maya Quinones added an assist against New Mexico Highlands.
 
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian women's soccer program began in 2010 with a 5-2 loss to UT Permian Basin. On Sept. 2, 2021, they recorded the 100th win in program history, beating New Mexico Highlands 4-1. The Lady Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 115-84-28.
 
THE SERIES WITH WAYLAND BAPTIST
  • This will be the first matchup between LCU and Wayland Baptist since 2019.
  • In the 2019 matchup LCU won 5-0.
  • The Lady Chaps have dominated the all-time series going 5-1-1.
  • LCU has won three consecutive matchups dating back to 2013.
  • The first matchup took place on Nov. 2, 2010.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • Wayland Baptist enters Saturday's contest with a 1-1-2 record.
  • Last time out they lost 5-0 to Our Lady of the Lake.
  • The Pioneers are members of NAIA's Sooner Athletic Conference.
  • They have been outscored eight to seven this season.
  • They have scored 1.75 goals per game with a .581 shot on goal percentage.
  • Giovana Castro is their leading goal scorer with three.
  • Dayanara Torres and Ava Kent have split time in goal for Wayland. They have combined for 19 saves and a .704 save percentage.
  • Wayland is coached Shiloh Posey who has been the head coach since 2007.
