Lady Chaps Look to Bounce Back Against UTPB

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team returns home to take on Texas – Permian Basin Wednesday night at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

LAST TIME OUT LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • The Lady Chaps are off to a 4-2-2 start and are 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
  • LCU is averaging 1.75 goals per game with an average of 14.3 shots per game.
  • LCU has outscored their opponents 14 to nine through the first eight games.
  • The Lady Chap defense is holding opponents to just 9.8 shots per game with a .500 shot on goal percentage.
  • LCU has taken 114 shots, 51 of which have been on goal.
 HOMETOWN HERO
  • Lubbock native Lexi De La Cruz has been one of the best players in the nation this season.
  • She is top-10 in all of Division II in assists, assists per game, and points.
  • Lexi ranks first in the Lone Star Conference in goals and is in the top-10 in the LSC in assists, shots, shots on goal, and points.
  • Through the first eight games she has recorded five goals and six assists. Taking 20 shots with 13 shots on goal.
SUPPORTING CAST FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian women's soccer program began in 2010 with a 5-2 loss to UT Permian Basin. On Sept. 2, 2021, they recorded the 100th win in program history, beating New Mexico Highlands 4-1. The Lady Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 115-84-28.
 THE SERIES WITH UTPB
  • LCU is 12-2-1 all-time against the Falcons.
  • The lady Chaps enter Wednesday's match with a nine-game win streak over UTPB.
  • LCU's last loss to UTPB came on Oct. 31, 2015.
  • In 2022 LCU pulled out a 2-1 win.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
  • Texas – Permian Basin enters Wednesday's match with a 2-3-1 record and opened LSC play by losing 2-0 to Dallas Baptist.
  • Their only two wins have come against Schreiner and Sul Ross State, both of which are NCAA DIII programs.
  • The Falcons have been outscored nine to 14 this season.
  • They average 1.50 goals per game with a .467 shot on goal percentage.
  • The UTPB defense allows 2.33 goals per game and gives up 17.2 shots per game.
  • The Falcons offense is led by Sophomore Maria Tarrago who has scored three goals this season.
  • Tatiana Leggiero has added a goal and two assists of her own.
  • Tyeliyah Jones, Kristel Chaves, Carolina Farias, and Laura Perez have all scored a goal each.
  • UTPB has played two goalkeepers in 2023 with Valeria Delgado and Jenna McEnaney seeing action.
  • Delgado has seen the most action making 20 saves on 74 shots faced. She allows 2.9 goals per game and has a .645 save percentage.
  • McEnaney has played in four games making 13 saves on 29 shots faced. She has a 1.36 goals allowed average and has a .813 save percentage.
  • The Falcons are coached by Carla Tejas who is in her second season. Prior to UTPB she led Louisiana Christian to the NAIA National Tournament.
  • In 2022 the Falcons went 5-8-3 and 3-7-2 in LSC play.
  • They were picked to finish last in the LSC Preseason Poll.
