LUBBOCK, Texas (January 13, 2024) – Audrey Robertson and Grace Foster each scored 21 points and the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals beat the Angelo State Rambelles 67-54 inside Rip Griffin Center Saturday. The win moved LCU to 4-0 in West Division play in the Lone Star Conference, and they are atop the division as the only unbeaten team in the division.
The Lady Chaps (12-3, 7-1) claimed their fifth consecutive win behind the play of Robertson, who had 21 points, six rebounds and two steals and Foster, who added a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Maci Maddox added eight points, six assists and four steals.
Lubbock Christian out-rebounded Angelo State 45-40 in Saturday's game, co-led by 10 boards from Reese Schumann. The Lady Chaps also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored a season-high 11 second chance points (outscored ASU 11-10 in the category).
Lubbock Christian did a great job disrupting Angelo State shots in the contest, coming away with a season-high five blocks. Schumann and Foster led the way individually for the Lady Chaps with two rejections. She also led LCU with a +17 plus/minus.
Angelo State (12-5, 6-2) had their six-game win streak snapped. Madeline Stephens led ASU in scoring with 16 points. They also received a double-double from Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant (14 rebounds, 10 points).
How It Happened
After playing to a 5-5 tie early in the game, Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run with 2:57 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Deja Johnson, to take an 11-5 lead. The Lady Chaps then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 13-7 advantage behind four points in the frame from Foster. Lubbock Christian relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 13 points.
Lubbock Christian kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 8:29 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Robertson, to increase its lead to 24-10. Lady Chaps received five points each from Schumann and Robertson in the period to take a 30-18 advantage heading into halftime. Foster and Robertson each had eight points at the break.
Angelo State opened the second half on a 5-0 run before eventually going on a 12-2 run over a span of 3:24 to tie the game at 39-39 with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter. LCU never trailed in the second half, as they responded with a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Foster, to grab a 44-39 lead with 42 seconds left in the third quarter. The Lady Chaps had seven points each from Foster and Robertson in the quarter, and entered the fourth quarter with a 44-41 edge.
Lubbock Christian was able to widen their lead to 59-52, before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 67-52 with 42 seconds to go in the contest. LCU knocked down four treys in the quarter, with two by Foster 44-seconds apart inside the final three minutes of the contest. Maddox led LCU with seven points in the quarter.

» Grace Foster notched an impressive double-double for the Lady Chaps with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 rebounds was a season-high, as she recorded her first double-double of the season (16th of her career). The 21 points marked her 22nd career performance of at least 20 points, and she has led or co-led the team in scoring six consecutive games.
» The Lady Chaps shot well from three-point range, knocking down 8-of-19 long range attempts (42.1%). Robertson and Foster were each 3-of-7 from downtown and Robertson's trio of long-range field goals ties her career high. Foster had two three-pointers inside the final five minutes of the game and is now 8-of-11 (72.7%) inside the final five minutes of game from long-distance this season.
