Schweer Perfection: LCU Garners Record-Setting Sweep Over Falcons

Bryleigh Schweer Breaks Program Record as Lady Chaps Soar Over Falcons

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 16, 2024) -- Lubbock Christian University tallied 55 kills across three sets, with Bryleigh Schweer tying her career high (15 kills) and setting a new program single-match hitting percentage record, as the Lady Chaparrals swept Texas-Permian Basin (25-23, 25-22, 25-19) inside Rip Griffin Center. Schweer went error-free on 20 attempts for a .750 hitting percentage, leading LCU to the Lone Star Conference victory. Additionally, setter Kayton Genenbacher reached several key milestones in the match.
 
The conference victory improved Lubbock Christian's record to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in LSC action. It was their third consecutive victory and it pushed UTPB to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in LSC play.
 
The Lady Chaps attack was paced by Bryleigh Schweer, who finished with 15 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .750, and by Payton Murray, who had 15 kills as well. Defensively, LCU had two players reach double figures in digs as Kayton Genenbacher had 14 and Leddy Rae Guinn had 11. Genenbacher's 14 digs completed a double-double, as she also had 39 assists.
 
Game Notes
» LCU recorded 55 kills, their highest total in a three-set match since notching 59 against Dallas Baptist on Oct. 23, 2014. In that same 2014 match, LCU also tallied 56 assists. On Wednesday, LCU produced 52 assists, marking their highest total in a three-set match since the DBU game. This assist figure ties for the third-highest in a three-set match )in program history) since rally scoring to 25 points began in 2008.

» Kayton Genenbacher notched her ninth double-double of the season and 33rd of her career, as she had 39 assists and 14 digs. The 39 assists placed her career assists mark at 2,792, which moved her past Tiana Hergert (2,761, 1989-92) and Erin Fisher (2,767, 2011-14) and into seventh all-time in program history.

» Bryleigh Schweer tied a match-high and career-high with 15 kills for Lubbock Christian. She had 15 kills on 20 attempts without an error for a .750 attack percentage. The mark shattered the prior record of .708 held by Elissa Loynes from Oct. 31, 2009 against Mid-America Christian.
 
» Freshman Camryn Blair appeared in her fourth contest this season and produced a career-best eight kills, including the final kill of the game to close the game.
 
» Payton Murray, who leads LCU in conference play in kills (96 kills) had a 15-kill outing for Lubbock Christian. She has produced at least 10 kills in six consecutive matches and seven of her last eight contests.
 
» LCU improved to 3-0 this season at home.
 
» The Lady Chaps improved to 19-6 all-time against UTPB in Lubbock and 43-11 overall against the Falcons. The two teams split the regular season series (both with 3-0 finals), as UTPB won the non-conference meeting and LCU won the conference match.
 
» UTPB entered the match with the best defensive mark in the LSC in opposing hitting percentage, but allowed LCU to hit .308 Wednesday. The Falcons were led by nine kills from Kennedi Wright.
 
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Chaps persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match. The Lady Chaps opening set win came in a stanza where 19 of their 25 points came via the kill. The match was tied as late as 22-22 before LCU received a pair of kills from Murray, who finished with eight kills in the set.
 
SET 2 | Lubbock Christian continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-22 victory in set number two. The Lady Chaps grabbed the set with the help of a strong performance on the attacking end. Lubbock Christian put together a .438 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands two times, the Lady Chaps took control for good at 20-19 and rode that advantage to victory. Leading 23-22, LCU put the set away with kills from Murray and Bickley. Blair and Schweer each had five kills in the set for LCU.
 
SET 3 | Lubbock Christian closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking set three. The Lady Chaps took the set 25-19 powered by a strong performance on the attacking end. Lubbock Christian registered a .361 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. LCU used an 8-2 run to breakaway from an 11-11 tie in the match. Schweer had an additional five-kill set to close the match.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
LCU's four-match homestand closes Saturday at 2 p.m., as LCU hosts Sul Ross for a Lone Star Conference match. It is the first matchup between the two programs since 1998.
