Bickley’s Barrage and Blair’s Breakout Power Lady Chaps to 3-1 Road Victory

LCU Records 65 Kills, Defeats Mustangs for Fifth Straight Win in Lone Star Conference Play

SILVER CITY, N.M. (October 23, 2024) – Lily Bickley's 18 kills led a quartet of Lady Chaparrals with double-digit kills as Lubbock Christian University posted their highest road kill total in a four-set match since the introduction of rally scoring (2008). Their 65 kills powered the Lady Chaps to a 3-1 victory (25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) over the Western New Mexico Mustangs in Lone Star Conference play Wednesday at Drag's Court.
 
The Lady Chaps fifth consecutive win moved the Lady Chaps' record to 11-8 overall and 7-2 in LSC play. They handed WNMU their fourth consecutive loss and the Mustangs fall to 6-15 overall and 2-7 in LSC play.
 
The Lady Chaps offense was paced by Lily Bickley, who finished with 18 kills while accumulating a hitting percentage of .419. She had 13 of her kills over the final two sets. Camryn Blair added 15 kills and Payton Murray chipped in with 15 kills as part of a Lubbock Christian attack that had four players with double-digit kills (Bryleigh Schweer had 10 kills). Defensively, LCU had two players reach double figures in digs as Ramsey Clark had 13 and Leddy Rae Guinn had 10.
 
Game Notes
» Lubbock Christian had four players reach double digits in kills, with Lily Bickley leading the charge, just one shy of her career high with 18 kills. Freshman Camryn Blair had a standout performance, recording her first double-digit effort with 15 kills. LCU's 65 kills marked their second-highest kill total of the season in a four-set match—just behind the 67 kills they tallied against Texas A&M-Kingsville on October 11—but it was their highest on the road in a four-set match since the introduction of the rally scoring format in 2008.

» Leddy Rae Guinn had a match-high four aces in the win. The total matched a career high and it marked the third match this season Guinn has notched four aces.

» LCU had an attack percentage of .326 in the match for their third consecutive match with at least a .300 attack percentage. The last time LCU hit at least .300 in three consecutive matches was early in the 2010 season.

» Lubbock Christian got a match-high 13 digs from Ramsey Clark.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a match-high 54 assists from Kayton Genenbacher.
 
» LCU won a match for the first time this season when dropping the second set. LCU is now 1-6 in matches when losing the second set.
 
» LCU improved to 3-5 in road matches on the season.
 
» The win marked LCU's eighth consecutive win in the head-to-head series and leads the all-time series with a 9-7 mark. LCU is 4-1 all-time in Silver City with the win.
 
» Jazmyne Walker led WNMU with 14 kills and a block.
 
How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Lady Chaps took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-15. Lubbock Christian used a 10-3 run and led by as many as 10 points at 23-13 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills. Payton Murray and Bryleigh Schweer each co-led LCU with four kills each.
 
SET 2 | Lubbock Christian lost the second set 25-23 to even the match 1-1. The Lady Chaps couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way. They fell in the set despite six kills in the frame from Murray.
 
SET 3 | Lubbock Christian returned to the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Chaps took the set 25-19. Lubbock Christian took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that featured 16 ties and five lead changes. The Lubbock Christian offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza (two by Olivia Elofsson). Blair (5) and Bickley (4) combined for nine kills in the set.
 
SET 4 | Lubbock Christian kept the momentum going, earning the match win with a 25-16 fourth-set victory. The Lady Chaps took control of the set at 3-2 and never looked back. Lubbock Christian led by nine points at 24-15 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 20 kills. Bickley hit .667 in the set with nine kills.

LCU remains on the road Saturday and head to San Angelo, Texas to face No.15 Angelo State at 2 p.m. inside Junell Center.
