Five LCU Players Reach Double-Figures in Offensive Showcase

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 26, 2024) -- The Lubbock Christian men's basketball team shot 56.2 percent from three-point range and better than 60 percent from the field on the way to a 108-73 win against the Texas-Dallas Comets at home Tuesday.

It is the first time LCU has reached triple-digits this season and their most points scored in a single game since Nov. 24, 2022, when they also scored 108 points against Western New Mexico.

The Chaparrals (4-3) had five players score in double figures, led by Amondo Miller Jr., who had 22 points, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Ty Caswell tacked on 20 points, six rebounds and two steals. That mark was one point shy of his career high, which was on Nov. 19, 2021 against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Caswell did most of his damage from behind the arc, hitting a career-high six three-pointers on nine attempts.

Sean Murphy helped out with 19 points, while Alex Anamekwe (12) and Aaron Gonzales (11) contributed offensively off the bench.

The Lubbock Christian defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Tuesday's game, forcing 13 Texas-Dallas turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 31 points on the offensive end of the floor.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was tightly contested throughout the first eight minutes, with the Comets even leading by one with 12:34 left to play before the break. LCU went on a run in the next four minutes and got the lead out to nine thanks to three-points by Anamekwe and Gonzales, but UTD stayed in the fight and closed the gap back to one with 5:02 left.

UT Dallas's biggest reason for keeping it close as long as they did was Nick Donnelly, who had 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting in just 16 minutes of playing time.

But the final four minutes of the first half belong entirely to the Chaps – literally. Miller Jr. sparked the run with a pair of free throws with 3:23 left before the half. What followed was a barrage of threes – two by Caswell, one by Najeeb Muhammad and another from Ethan Duncan – ballooning the lead to 17 at halftime.

The lead stretched all the way to 28 eight minutes before the Comets made one last run to get back in the game. UTD pulled with 16 with 5:45 to go, forcing a timeout from the Chaps. A 10-0 run out of the break put the game back out of reach as Lubbock Christian cruised to the win.
