GOLDEN, CO (Nov. 8, 2024)Â --Â Amondo Miller Jr. scored 21 points and three other Chaparrals finished in double-figures as Lubbock Christian upended No. 8 Colorado School of Mines 89-78 on the road Friday.
It is the first win over a ranked opponent for the Chaps this season. LCU was 3-3 against teams ranked in the top 10 last season, including victories against No. 6 Lincoln Memorial, No. 10 Angelo State and No. 4 West Texas A&M.
Â
Miller Jr. added nine rebounds and three assists to his 21-point game to lead the Chaparrals (2-1). Ethan Duncan helped out with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists and Najeeb Muhammad chipped in with 17 points, six assists and two steals. Jaylen Thompson reached double-figures for his first time as a Chap with 12 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado School of Mines started off hot, hitting on 75 percent of their field goal attempts through the first ten minutes of play to open up an eight point lead.
Â
The Chaps were still behind 36-31 with 1:29 to go in the half, but they closed strong with a 6-0 run, culminating in a buzzer-beating three from Miller Jr., to take a 37-36 lead at the break.
Â
Duncan came out of the locker room hot, nailing back-to-back threes, and another three from Miller Jr. at the 17:03 mark put the Chaps up by double-figures for the first time.
Â
Mines cut it back to four, but LCU opened the gap back up to 12 with a 9-1 run capped off by another three from Duncan. He had 15 of his season-high 18 points in the final 20 minutes.
Â
A jumper from Muhammad with 11:37 left stretched the lead to 14, which was its widest point. The two squads mostly traded buckets from that point on, with the Orediggers never closing the gap to fewer than nine points.
Â
LCU got in the bonus with just over six minutes to play and was clutch from the free throw line to close it out. They were 14-of-17 from the charity stripe in the game.
