Lady Chaps Put ThunderWolves on Ice: Foster’s Double-Double Powers LCU in Rout

Foster's Double-Double and Stifling Defense Propel LCU to Commanding Win

TYLER, Texas (November 8, 2024) – The No.17 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals held Colorado State-Pueblo to just 22.2 percent shooting from the field while hitting 51.9 percent of their own shots, securing a 72-38 victory over the ThunderWolves in Friday's South Central Region Challenge opener at Herrington Patriot Center.
 
The Lady Chaps (3-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Grace Foster, who secured a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Audrey Robertson tacked on 14 points and six assists and Maci Maddox added nine points, four assists and two steals.
 
Lubbock Christian shared the ball well in Friday's game, racking up 17 assists on 28 made field goals. Robertson's six assists paced the Lady Chaps.
 
The Lubbock Christian defense held Colorado State-Pueblo shooters to just 22.2 percent from the field, including 14.3 percent from three-point range. The ThunderWolves did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only nine offensive rebounds and scored five second chance points while Lubbock Christian pulled down 39 defensive rebounds.
 
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 12-7 advantage, Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run with 2:49 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Robertson, to increase its lead to 18-7. Lubbock Christian relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 21 points. Foster (8) and Robertson (7) combined for 15 points in the frame for LCU.
 
Lubbock Christian kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 9:36 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Foster, to increase its lead to 27-11. Foster ended up with a pair of three-pointers in the quarter and helped LCU enjoy a 37-19 advantage heading into halftime. Lubbock Christian was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 16 points. Foster (14) and Robertson (12) were in double figures in scoring at the break.
 
Following intermission, Lubbock Christian continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 48-25 before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Audrey Spurgin, to expand its lead further to 57-25 with 22 seconds to go in the third quarter. Lubbock Christian played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint. CSUP was 2-of-13 (15.4%) from the field in the quarter, while LCU was 9-of-15 (60%) from the field. Nine different Lady Chaps collected at least one point in the quarter.
 
Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 65-27 with 6:06 to go in the contest. Reese Schumann (scored all six of her points in the second half) was 2-of-2 from the field in the quarter and helped LCU cruise the rest of the way for the 72-38 win. Lubbock Christian took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
 
Game Notes
» Grace Foster notched a double-double for the Lady Chaps with 18 points and 11 rebounds. It marked her first double-double of the season and 18th of her career.
 
» Foster was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line in the game and improved to 24-of-24 (%100) from the line in five career games against CSUP.

» Lubbock Christian lit it up from beyond the arc, knocking down nine treys in the game. LCU has made 21 three-pointers over the past two games.

» The Lady Chaps held the ThunderWolves to only 22.2 percent shooting from the field. It was the Pack's worst shooting performance since LCU has joined NCAA Division II and CSU Pueblo's 38 points were the fewest since scoring 38 on Dec. 13, 2019.

» The Lady Chaps never trailed in the game. They have not trailed in a game this season and the last time they completed three consecutive games without trailing was in February of 2022, which was a four-game span.

» Lubbock Christian recorded 17 total assists in the game. Audrey Robertson matched a career high with six assists (fourth time she has registered six assists).

» Maci Maddox was a +33 in the plus/minus category, as LCU's Foster and Robertson were each at +30 to place three Lady Chaps with at least a +30 in the category Friday.

» The Lubbock Christian bench came alive by scoring 24 points to its scoring output. LCU dressed 10 active players and all 10 scored in the second half.

» Lubbock Christian had a 44-31 edge on the boards in the win. The +13 differential was their best since a +16 on Feb. 11, 2023.
 
» The Lady Chaps are 3-0 in neutral site contests with the trio of victories. LCU, 1-2 in neutral site play last season, has not had a winning record in neutral site contests since going 6-2 in 2021-22.
 
» CSU Pueblo opens the season 0-1. Brynae Stewart was the lone ThunerWolves player with at least 10 points (she finished with 10 points).
 
» LCU improved to 10-5 all-time against CSU Pueblo. The Lady Chaps have won four consecutive meetings and seven of the last eight.

LCU remains in Tyler Saturday for the South Central Region Challenge, facing Colorado Christian (2 p.m.), who fell to tournament host UT Tyler.
