Lady Chaps Face Eagles in Friday Night Showdown at Rip Griffin Center, Which Opens Four Match Homestand To End Regular Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 8, 2024) – Four regular season matches remain in the season and all four are at home, where Lubbock Christian University returns to host Oklahoma Christian (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Cameron (Saturday at 2 p.m.) for the first half of the homestand inside Rip Griffin Center.

LOOKING AT OC
- LCU holds a perfect 7-0 record all-time against the Eagles. LCU won the first 14 sets played in the all-time series. Three of the last four meetings have been scheduled in Lubbock, where LCU is 3-0 all-time in the series. This meeting marks the fourth consecutive season OC has appeared in a match played in Lubbock.
 
- The 2023 season witnessed OC open the season on a 6-2 start, which included a six-match win streak, but an eventual coaching change led to a rocky second half of the season, as OC went 3-7 in their last 10 matches. The 14-15 season (6-10 in LSC play) led to OC returning in 2024 preseason picked 11th in the LSC.

- Oklahoma Christian has enjoyed a successful 2024 season, holding an overall record of 18-8 and a conference record of 7-5 in the competitive Lone Star Conference. The Eagles have demonstrated their strength across various venues, boasting a 7-2 record at home, a 4-5 record on the road, and an impressive 7-1 in neutral settings. Oklahoma Christian enters their upcoming matchup on a four-game winning streak, having secured recent victories against teams like Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico. As the season winds down, the Eagles aim to strengthen their conference standing, currently seventh in the LSC, with just a few matches left before potential postseason play.

- Oklahoma Christian's volleyball team showcases solid rankings both nationally and within the Lone Star Conference in several key areas. Leading the conference in total attacks and total blocks, they rank 21st and 30th nationally, respectively, with 3,546 total attacks and 205.5 total blocks. Their blocking prowess is further highlighted by their 2.12 blocks per set, ranking 66th nationally and fourth in the conference. Additionally, they rank second in the conference and 25th nationally in total kills with 1,225, while their total digs place them second in the conference and 45th nationally with 1,532. In terms of service aces, Oklahoma Christian is ranked second in the conference with 154 total, ranking 94th nationally. While their hitting percentage of .219 places them 75th nationally and eighth in the conference, they remain competitive across various statistical categories, underscoring their balanced performance.

- LSC Three-time Freshman of the Week Chloe Jones stands out as Oklahoma Christian's top performer. Jones ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and 41st nationally in total kills, amassing 316 kills. Her offensive production is bolstered by her 3.26 kills per set, ranking 13th in the conference. Additionally, Jones ranks second in the conference and 53rd nationally in total attacks with 860. Her versatility is evident in her contributions on defense, with 352 total digs (7th in the conference and 102nd nationally), along with her 3.71 digs per set, which ranks 12th in the conference.
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- Lubbock Christian enters Friday's match with a 12-10 overall record and an 8-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranked sixth among LSC teams. They played their first 14 matches of the season away from home (includes seven neutral site matches…4-3), but have taken advantage of the limited home play, posting a 4-0 record on the home floor. Their four home matches is the fewest among all LSC programs (Sul Ross with six home matches is the closest), with several programs playing 14 games at home this season. LCU's final four regular season matches are at home.

- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Friday averaging 37.2 attacks (per set), which ranks eighth in the Lone Star Conference and 68th nationally. Kiana Fallaha and Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 10.8 attacks per set (30th nationally) and has 671 total attacks (15th in the conference) despite missing six matches. Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 3,158, which is sixth in the conference.

- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach Keith Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 444-214. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.

- Setter Kayton Genenbacher currently sits seventh all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 3,000 (25th actively among NCAA Division II assist leaders). On Nov.2 in Austin, Texas, she became the seventh Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 3,000 assists, and it came on the match-point of a 3-2 win over St. Edward's. Genenbacher ranks 16th nationally in assists per set with an average of 10.9 which is second in the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 922 assists this season (leads LSC and is 26th nationally).
 
-The Lady Chaps have shown potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and at the national level. Notably, the team's digs per set average of 15.6 ranks ninth in the conference, highlighting a solid defensive effort, led by Leddy Rae Guinn (13th in LSC with 3.6 digs per set). On the offensive side, the team's kills per set average of 13.6 is fifth in the conference, with Lily Bickley (seventh in LSC in points per set, 3.8) and Kiana Fallaha (eighth in points per set, 3.75) leading the way in scoring (points). Payton Murray has also been on display with double-figure kill efforts in 10 of the prior 13 matches and is averaging 3.08 kills per set over the 13-match span.
 
- LCU has made notable strides in conference play. Kayton Genenbacher has been a standout, averaging 11.6 assists per set (second in the LSC), contributing a total of 523 assists in 12 matches (second in LSC). Payton Murray supports the offense with 147 kills (13th in LSC), with Lily Bickley (146, 14th in LSC) and Bryleigh Schweer (116, 27th in LSC) providing a balance attack (14.2 kills per set for LCU to ranking fourth in the LSC, and ranking fifth in hitting with a mark of .243). Bickley leads in hitting (.324) and points per set (4.13, sixth in LSC). Defensively, Leddy Rae Guinn leads LCU with an average of 3.87 digs per set (11th in LSC).
 
- LCU has showcased impressive strength at home, going undefeated with a 4-0 record in matches played. The team's offense stands out, averaging 14.8 kills per set and achieving a solid .263 hitting percentage, significantly outpacing opponents' .161 percentage. Strong setting has been a cornerstone, with LCU posting 13.9 assists per set, facilitated by standout performances from Kayton Genenbacher. Their serving has also been effective, with 2.0 aces per set and a .932 serve percentage. Defensively, LCU has dominated digs with a 14.2 digs-per-set average, and a near-even blocking battle, slightly trailing in blocks per set at 2.3 versus opponents' 2.5. Payton Murray leads LCU at home with 50 kills (3.57 per set) and Lily Bickley leads in points with 67.5 (4.5 per set). Bryleigh Schweer has provided balance as well, averaging 3.13 kills and 1.27 blocks per set at home.
